in Start here and say hello!

Hi everyone,

I’m new here and looking for some support please. Also hoping that I can support others too.

I have a parking issue in our shared ownership, new build home. We have two owned spaces opposite our house which are too small for me to easily get in and out of my car. Next to my space is a curbed area with plants in which is growing wild (we pay a monthly fee to have it maintained) and now prevents me from opening my car door fully.

The neighbours cannot park and regularly park over our lines. We have tried asking politely that this doesn’t happen but she is VERY obstinate, aggressive and defensive.

Can I ask our housing association to remove some of the curb and nature area to widen my space?

    You can ask, but they don't have to agree especially if you don't have a disability related need for a wider space. The spaces will have been designed to be a uniform width.

    You might be better off complaining about your neighbours conduct, and insufficient maintenance of the nature area.

    I'm guessing you have two cars meaning you can't park across both spaces, leaving more room next to the curbed side?

    You could also change your car for something more compact that will fit into your allocated space better.
