Hi @Lochlan2026, welcome to the community. I don't have much experience in this area so I'm afraid I'm not too sure about the cross over between rent payments. I hope one of our members might have some direct experiences they can share soon.
You could also try ringing Scope's helpline for further advice. They're open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday.
Just as a note, many councils will offer a crisis and resilience fund payment if you're struggling with housing costs or find yourself in difficult financial times. You'd just need to search this on your local council website to see if you'd be eligible and what they're able to offer. It might be an option to look into if you find you'll be struggling with the transition between houses.
Hope your move goes smoothly! Do you know roughly how long it'll be before you move or are you still working things out?

Hi,
Universal Credit can't handle future changes. So you have to update your address and rent amount on the day that you move. (Or within a few days after).
UC will only pay rent on one of your properties for the month in which you move. So generally we would pay the upfront rent from other benefits while waiting for the next UC payment.

Hi @Lochlan2026 and welcome to the community. How are you feeling about moving home? I hope it suits your family's needs better.
If you're in arrears, you usually must pay your arrears back before you can exchange. You'll be asked to pay 1 to 4 weeks of rent upfront for the new property. The amount is dependent on the council. Have you had a look on your local council's website? As @Rosie_Scope has mentioned, local councils can offer financial support if you're struggling.
