Appeal

Hello, I've been waiting for my appeal for over 18 months. I emailed the court and asked them to investigate as the citizens advice had told me people in my area had been seen in 6 months and at the most a year - no one else had waited longer than a year.

They did email back and said they'd investigate. I guess I got lost on a pile somewhere because they haven't emailed back but today I got my appeal date and it's in a few weeks which I know is quick because most people wait a few months once they've got the date. So I guess if they're taking too long ask them to investigate and make sure you haven't also fallen down the back of a shelf!

Now that I have the date what should I prepare? Do I need to take anything or write anything in advance?

I'm a bit scared I don't cope well with courts because of previous DV and I have PTSD is it like a proper courtroom with a judge or will it be more like a meeting room?

Any and all appeal advice or people’s previous experiences would be so appreciated!

Thank you!

you dont have to write anything or bring it but if you might not remember or are the sort that leaves and thinks "crud I should have said this" then write it down so you remember it all

Hi @LTP! That's a nightmare timescale. Good thing you got on to them, and sounds like they've now turned it around fairly quickly which is good - means you won't have the added anxiety for too long of waiting on that date hopefully.

As it's been a while, I'd definitely suggest having a good read through everything and making sure you have all the information handy - anything to support your case.

I've not been through this myself, but I don't recall seeing much negativity about the actual tribunal, so hopefully you'll be fine once you get there. Remember - you've not done anything wrong, and it's your right to question the decision. It's completely understandable how you're feeling though - I'd probably be the same! Have you got somebody close that you can take along as a bit of emotional support?

The room is usually more like classroom, with tables and chairs all on one level. Although it's in a court building, it's not actually a court room.
