Child protected medicine

As I have gotten older and more and more infirm, I increasingly struggle to get my medications open. It is called Child proofing them, but there are no children in my house, other than my dog, and my medication is stored in a medical cabinet, I find it really annoying that because of other people who have kids, the rest of us have to suffer with medication that is child proofed. There should be an option for adults to go without child proofing medication.

Yes I tried using dosette boxes prepared by the pharmacy, but because I have 3 different sources of medication, hospital, gp and other it still ends up coming in child proof bottles. I also struggle to open dosette boxes with the cling film from the pharmacy, so back on regular containers which all have this infernal child proofing.

I wonder if they will consider an option for those who don't have children or do not have their medication exposed to children, to not child proof the bottles and boxes?

    There are probably legal requirements that prevent such an option being offered unfortunately.

    Have you thought about hiring a carer who could come round say once a week, and organise a weeks medication into something like an easily opened pill box?

    In February I set up a care package of 30 mins a week for my bed to be changed because I was really struggling due to an external situation. In the time left they'll do anything else I ask such as cleaning, opening boxes & putting things away etc. It was really nice for the social chat & contact too as I spend a lot of time home alone.

    I've suspended it recently as with the summer bedding I don't need the help, but am seriously considering reactivating in the Autumn even though the external situation that led to my struggles has ended and I've all round improved.

    Good idea thank you, have been thinking about a carer, how do you setup a care package and how much does it cost?

    Because I could afford to pay from my PIP, I went private straight away.

    After looking round locally I decided to go with an agency which was a branch of a national company. I made a phone call, had a meeting with them and did some paperwork.

    So all you need to do is make phone calls to anywhere you are interested in, they will then arrange to meet you, you can discuss your needs and they'll go through their terms.

    Most care agency company websites will list their costs.

    I found the whole process very easy and my only regret was not asking for that help sooner 🙂

    If you want to go through social services, the first step is ask for a needs assessment, after this is done a financial assessment takes place to see who pays for what.
