Worrying a lot about WCA and the Timms report

Hi everyone, hope this is the right place to post this, sorry if this should be somewhere else. I'm not really sure where to begin with this. I really need to get this off my chest and I hope someone might be able to help put my mind at ease. I've been reading a lot recently about the wca being scrapped following the conclusion of the timms report and it's got me very worried. If the proposed changes to pip eligibility go ahead then no more pip for me, which of course means that if the wca is scrapped then no more uc health element. I can't bear the thought of having 400 quid to scrape by on each month- I won't be able to manage at all- I can only imagine what other people who've lost their benefits entirely through other changes are going through- and I can't stop having the worst thoughts about what might happen to, not just me, but other people I know who rely on pip. I might be able to find part time work but that's not a reality for others. I've suffered from clinical depression and generalised anxiety disorder for decades and have been struggling with me/cfs since 2023. If the wca is scrapped it'll derail everything and I won't be able to cope.

There are plans to link the UC health element to PIP, but there are not any official propsed changes to PIP at this time.

It's best to try & save your worries until things are confirmed 🙂

Hi, thanks for your response- I'm trying not to but not finding it easy. Even though nothing's been confirmed things still feel so hopeless

Hi @RVJ11 I'm sorry that this has you so worried. I'm hoping that this review will be a lot fairer than the initial proposal because it's being done with disabled people and charities. I know it's easier said than done, but try to distract yourself if you can until we know more. Appreciate it's not very nice for having to wait in anticipation for this but like I said, hoping that now they'll work with the right people and listen to the voices that are impacted.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm hoping that as well. Trying to worry less about the whole thing until it's complete but not finding it easy

I understand your worry. It feels like we’ve been in a very scary place for a long time - not knowing what’s going to happen and whether we’ll survive it. I too end up in some dark places over it. I’m trying to spend more time doing things and less time doom scrolling, it has helped a bit

I echo what Kimi87 has said, ignore speculations, only worry on confirmations.
Also with potential change of Labour leader, things are even more uncertain.
