Do You Know A Good Word?

Tho I agree with him as to some words being overused when a 'better' vocabulary might be more illustrative.

English is a really interesting language as we have words derived from Greek & Latin together with other languages as well as this classical background.

I wanted to study Latin at school, & for some reason we also then had to study Greek (which I thought pointless at the time), but they've both helped me in learning where some of the words we use come from.

I agree in that Louis de Berniere is almost bemoaning the lack of some 'better' more illustrative words. I do know who he is as a former bookseller. But if this discussion is about new words, which you've edited your post to reflect, then it's not a new word….

As for words, I've always liked "Antidisestablishmentarianism", although I don't agree with it, and "floccinaucinihilipiliphication" is another good one, but it's a **** to spell and I've forgotten what it means...
