Hot weather please Report Rough Sleepers To Council

Hey Guys,

Please tell the council about anyone you think is at risk sleeping rough this week they should put them in a place where they can get cool or give water and check. Thanks

The reason i know this is Iv slept in a car in both weather extremes hot and cold and got iced in. Sometimes of a night it could get cold early mornings summer and wake you up but iv also done it where its even hot after the sun goes in late at night and days are longer that was the worst. Its a sauna box of sweat and dehydration and rough sleepers are more at risk. God bless.

    Reporting them to the Coppers is pointless, they'll simply be moved on, and as soon as the Police have gone, the Homeless people return to the same spot.

    I agree but tell council. We get all these fake youtubers that offer them gifts etc does nothing just for views blame the drug user etc bs. In my experience council didnt help me but then i didnt know to ask for swep but i was known to them. You might actually save someone. Water cost nothing.

    Thank you for the reminder @Amazonianup and I'm sorry you have first hand experience of this.

    I honestly hadn't considered how awful being homeless in this weather would be, I always offer water but hadn't thought of it beyond that, especially the night times.

    I once bought a Homeless guy who was camped outside McDonald's on the High St a Mars bar from GT News across the road, not very healthy yeah but he was just glad of something to eat bless him.

    I do feel sorry for the Homeless folk who are genuinely Homeless, just not the ones who actually live in Houses in posh areas and pretend to be Homeless.

    Yesterday, I took out with me a bottle of water from the fridge (the one I keep for any unexpected visitor - as if!) and came across a woman I'd never seen before crying in a doorway with a very red face.

    I carry a refillable bottle for my own use but a chilled bottle of water and a coin, perhaps even a chat, could change a person's day.

    You can't "put people" in a safe place if it's against their will - you can offer a safe place but many rough sleepers will stay outdoors in all weathers from choice !

    Because they've never known any better, they don't know what we, for want of a better word "normal" people take for granted, 4 walls that are nice and warm, and we've got Kettles to make a cuppa when we want to and an Oven to make food.

    It's rather sad really.

    The problem is, in some cases, them becoming Homeless is their own fault, they get into bad debt via Alcohol or Drugs etc, they can't afford their rent and the Landlord is therefore within his rights to chuck 'em out.

    No one chooses it and they can offer them a place they usually dont want to because of housing issues. The biggest lie i was told by council. Its difficult to meet some needs yes but it doesnt mean you stop trying to help. Most are on an off homeless. Rough sleepers do it everynight. Trust me no one wants to be sitting in a tent or car right now or trying to sleep in a sleeping bag in the brush. Not even close to comfortable. You dont want to be out with mental health, drug addiction or alcohol in heat. You are likely to be very ill Im sitting hear windows open and sweating.

    Thank you so much @Amazonianup for such a thoughtful post and reminder. I really feel for anybody forced to remain outside right now and hope local councils are doing what they can to support people alongside charities etc.

    I think there are but from my experience i think its about verifying and strict rules because no money because some people abuse system and homeless get more points for housing. That is why i say different types of homeless some sofa surf but then might be out a few nights or the abused go back home and some are just not legit at all but know all the right things to say and where to ask for help. Also hostels cost alot of money apparently. Its like you have to go through hell before you get to the relief of your first cup of tea in your own place.
