Advice please 19 year old son

Hi need advice as im confused by it all. My son turned 19 in june. Gets high rate pip on both elements. I no my universal credit will stop for him 31st of Aug. Hes going back to college September to finish his level 3. I never knew about esa credits until recently so I no cant apply.

Not sure what to do 2 scenarios.

1. Put him as non dependent on universal credit and still get child benefit and child maintenance

2. Make a claim for his own universal credit with out esa credits in September lose child ben and child maintenance

Any advice please. Thank you x

I think it depends how much child maintenance you receive for him, I don't think he can get UC as a student so child maintenance is probably higher for you than what he'd get on UC.

I hate to be pedantic but at 19, he's legally an adult so he wouldn't be eligible for CHILD maintenance.

But he would still be in full time education. I think that might be the difference here?

My daughter lives with me, she is on high rate of pip, like me, I get uc and nsesa and nothing taken off because she's on pip. But the cab should advise you. My daughter is at university

That's correct, while in fulltime non-advance education and under 20, they can continue to claim both child benefit and child maintenance.
