Hi, my name is Rag_793!
Good Evening everyone,
I am Rag an old grumpy Buddhist Viking
I battle many mental and physical disabilities, often not leaving my cave for weeks on end. It is fair to say the last six years have been like a Storm in the North Sea, more downs than ups. I often have had to battle alone against the professionals to get the help and support that I have been screaming out for. Thankfully I defeated my local CMHT earlier this year and I am finally on the waiting list for Psychological Support over an extended period, rather than the short sharp jabs that you get with private Counselling. I live in an adapted flat where I am finally now starting to ask for help! I got up a few weeks ago with my walking stick and fell sideways onto the couch which dented the old confidence. I sat down, had a word with myself and messaged my Dr’s to look at me using a Rollator Walker. Thankfully last week I saw a Physio at a local Hospital and took open for a spin, it shocked me as I noticed straight away I was standing upright compared to being hunched over when I use a walking stick. I was given a new one and brought it home with me, it is going to be a game changer for me as it is going to help me get my life slowly back together. I will be taking it to the Opera House in Manchester in October to watch Chicago Blues Brothers, then off to watch Ultimate Classic Rock Show near to wear I live and then Deep Purple and Mammoth Van Halen in Birmingham in November.
Last month I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and visited the Titanic Exhibition in Birmingham and was blown away by it, alongside attending a talk by the first British Diver to visit her final resting place. This month I am going away for two nights to Duxford to visit the IWM Duxford Museum which is somewhere I have wanted to visit for a very long time, due to the size of the site I have hired an electric scooter. When I went to Brum I used Passenger Assistance for the first time which opened my eyes to and mind to me saying yes it is ok to ask for help.
Due to a health scare a few months ago it made me sit down and rethink about adopting a dog or applying for an Assistance Dog, instead I find myself watching cat videos on you tube and has now made me now when the time is right I am going to adopt a cat and become a Crazy Cat Dad.
I also came to a final decision in May and spoke to my GP about now having a DNAR & DNACPR placed onto my medical records. I have been fighting since I took my first breath and it is exhausting now and I am tired. If my heart says that’s it lad, you’ve had a good fight, it’s time for you to be at peace, pain free and can finally rest.
Anyway that is just me a Grumpy old Viking who likes Books, Music, Lego, Cinema, History etc.
