YouTube and UC (LCWRA)

Hello people,

I am currently in benefit of Universal Credit (LCWRA). Is it possible to start creating content on YouTube while still claiming my benefits? Or would they deem it as work and stop my payments?

    I'm on LCWRA and have a Youtube channel which is monetised. I don't make much money, it's only a small amount once every few months, but UC/DWP class this as self employment, they haven't stopped my money, but I think they will stop your money if you're making over a certain amount (it would probably have to be quite a lot each week).

    I think they do make a small deduction from my LCWRA each month depending on how much I earn from Youtube, and on the 12th of each month I have to log into my UC account and declare my earnings.

    As you're on LCWRA, you get a Work Allowance each month before any deductions are made.

    If you get Housing Costs paid then the Work Allowance is £427.

    If you do not get Housing Costs then the Work Allowance is £710.

    Any money you make above the Work Allowance is subject to a deduction of 55% (55p per £1), but only on the amount above the Work Allowance.

    Yes you can do YouTube no problem, so long as you report the income.
