Happy Yorkshire Day! Celebrated every year on August 1st, this special day honours the historic county of Yorkshire for its rich heritage and stunning landscapes. I'm a born and bred Yorkshire girl and I'm lucky enough to live in a beautiful village surrounded by the moors.

I think one of my favourite things about Yorkshire is the friendliness. Everyone will usually say hello as they pass you on the street, and what's even better is that a lot of people have dogs and I love getting to meet them!

    Oh dear @Rag_793! Have you visited Yorkshire? I used to spend quite a bit of time in Lancashire, specifically Garstang. They have a lovely garden centre there, but it's obviously not as good as what we have here 😉

    My dad use to say the best thing about Yorkshire was the road into Lancashire….

    My maternal grandmother was from Lancashire, she was brought up here in 1922, when her old man signed for Dundee Hibernian ( Now Dundee United) at the end of his playing career.

    I would have to research it, but I think he had been at Blackburn Rovers previously.

    I've never been to Yorkshire but love Yorkshire tea.

    Its the only tea I drink.

    My favourite day is Monday here during the tourist season.

    Its generally a bit quieter on exchange days.

    Oi, don't be starting all that "Wars of the Roses" stuff, you know Jenny on The Chase? If she wasn't already married, I'd be in love, even if she is a Lancashire girl.

    Glad you like our tea @luvpink! I'm a green tea drinker myself but I've heard it's very nice. We get a fair few tourists here too and lots of places are closed on Mondays.

    2 of my closest friends are from Lancashire, I try not to hold it against them 😉

    My favourite thing about Yorkshire is that it's in Yorkshire. I agree that northerners are much nicer people.

    I stayed with a friend who took me to York Minster and Yorkshire Sculpture Park with our girls.

    Driving home over the moors as it got dark was the creepiest journey I've ever had…

    I have been to Yorkshire twice, once to Leeds and the other time to Sheffield but both times I was only up there for a day and didn't really see much! Would love to go back up and have a few days up there, the Yorkshire Dales look stunning😍

    I was born down south but lots of my family are Yorkshirish so we go there a lot. I don't get it, I always try to compensate for confirmation bias when it comes to stereotypes but I totally notice people are friendlier up North… it's like when you pass the Peak District there's this invisible line after which people suddenly have permission to speak to strangers!

    I've lived with and met Southerners/Londoners who think anywhere North of the M25's in another Universe….

    The M25 is our comfort blanket @SheffieldMan1976. Everywhere else is Far Away and Scary. And how do you expect us to cope with being more than 30 seconds away from a Pret a Manger?! 😂

    I'm only joking.

    Yorkshire is beautiful. We've got friends who live on the edge of the Dales and it's always a pleasure to spend time there. People definitely are friendlier!

    The thing is, everything is so close together in London but it also takes so long to get anywhere.

    I heard an ex-Londoner refer to something "up the next street" where he used to live; but he then added that that was half an hour away. Outside of London, half an hour can get you through an entire county.

    I've been travelling into Central London a bit recently from Bedfordshire, which is about 45 miles. It's not uncommon that the first 40 miles is less than one-third of the journey time. 😅

    I'm a born and bred Yorkie who moved to Scotland 13 years ago. It's such a big county, so i suppose it's the variety that i used to love, being from West Yorkshire, big cities like Leeds, Bradford etc, then the amazing countryside, the moors, the dales, then the coastline with Whitby, Scarborough etc was about an hour and a half away from me. I do miss some aspects of living there, but also parts of it just weren't the same, a lot had changed and not for the better, but i do like going back when i can. 🙂

    It's so nice to see your positive experiences with Yorkshire 😊 It's especially lovely to hear some of you say that northerners are friendly. I agree, we are!

    I love the Yorkshire Sculpture Park @WhatThe. It's wonderful on a sunny day with a picnic.

    @SwiftFox I used to love Yorkies, despite their anti-girls advertising, so I thought I'd have one the other day. It was so disappointing. Nothing like it used to be.

    I'm from South but live in West Yorkshire now @Starman in the countryside. It's beautiful here but I do miss being closer to Whitby.
