    I always thought English schools break for summer quite late. Schools here will be going back on Monday 18th August, pupils back on the 19th.

    Yes this weather is so bad for me , Iโ€™ve got asthma and recently had a bad attack having to go in another course of steroids, frightening. How about you , do you cope health wise ? It can be very difficult for people with problems. Hope youโ€™re ok .

    I am worse than the Grinch, I am not a fan of Christmas, Halloween, Bonfire Night, Valentines Day and Easter. To me personally they are over commercialised, money grabbing entities. They hold no meaning to what they did 30 to 40 years ago. I always had endless arguments with the ex wife at Christmas, she was all sunshine, rainbows and unicorns and put us in debt at that time of year. To me it is all just another day of the week, I preferred being at work at Christmas than being at home. I am very much that things are black and white. It was the same with my Birthday, just the same muck different year, another day I wasnโ€™t bothered about. I guess it is a good idea that I am on my own with no family or friends, I deserve to be alone and donโ€™t deserve to be loved.

    I'm a Halloween fan, have been for years, I used to go trick or treating with my Brother (never did get many treats)

    Although given Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, I'm debating whether to go out and do anything, might see if they're doing anything Halloween related in The George.

    They broke up here on the 23rd July & I think go back 31st August

    It's getting dark by 21:00 now, it would be better a couple of weeks earlier for outdoors play in the evening. It gets darrk even earlier down south, as I'm sure you know.

    It sure is, had to set my lamp to come on at 20:50 as of tonight, sadly. I do love your summer nights, almost light all night. I stayed over on Lewis, best place to be an insomniac in summer. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    That's nearly 3 weeks later than schools in my area. They came off on the 03rd of July.

    I remember, as a teenager, getting my dad to stand in front of the "turn left" sign which has the arrow at waist height

    Historically the summer holidays coincided with harvest as kids were needed to help harvest crops before combine harvesters were invented.

    Maybe Scotland grew crops that need harvesting earlier? It's mostly wheat down here which is ready around August.

    I am aware of this, as we still say the tattie holidays for the ones in the autumn. I was merely reflecting how the best of the summer is over by now, and I can't imagine kids these days could put their phone down long enough to harvest crops.

    We appear to have Filipinos doing that here, last season it was Africans.

    It's still 30c+ indoors down south. I don't think the best of summer is over yet, (for people who like the heat). I know I won't be able to breathe properly again before mid September at the earliest.

    They could just get up earlier if the 9pm dark is a problem. Sunrise is still well before 6am.

    You're welcome to it, I prefer the normal mixed weather we get up here, but I know that those coming after me will eventually end up with your summer sauna weather.
