in Universal Credit (UC)

Just when I thought I couldn't get any more stressed out to the absolute Max about this benefit.More **** happens.As some of you know they underpaid my rent for many months ( I pay a portion of it which I always pay on time).But it seems they have underpaid for almost 6 months.My landlord alerted me to this and what I thought would be sorted out in a week is still not sorted out in over a month.Now im being threatened with eviction because its a breach of my my tenancy even though its not my fault.My landlord are asking when U.C are actually going to pay this money in.And all they are saying is they 'Aim' to pay it soon.I simply cant cope.I think ive just about gone through every situation there is known to man apart from losing a limb so im guessing this is coming next

    I'm really sorry that's happened to you @Jane315STARX. You've definitely been through a lot over the past few months and this must be added stress that you just don't need. I hope they're able to get it sorted for you quickly so you can relax.

    If you feel like you've been treated unfairly, you could consider making a complaint: Complaints procedure - Department for Work and Pensions - GOV.UK

    Or you could try talking to your MP to see if they can put some pressure on. Fingers crossed it's all sorted soon.

    I just replied on your other discussion @Jane315STARX and hadn't seen this so you can ignore my other comment as this gives me more information.

    I can't believe that they haven't paid your rent properly for 6 months and aren't prioritising making it right. I can't imagine how stressful this is for you. Is your landlord being respectful towards you?

    Have you had a look at the complaints procedure that Rosie sent? I know it's probably the last thing you want to do but they've treated you incredibly unfairly.

    No my landlord are putting pressure on and saying it's a breach of my tenancy.I feel physically sick.I have left so many messages on the journal.I rang my landlord and they read me the letter which said that U c 'aim" to pay the amount in.But it didn't say when.They told me to get back in touch with u.c which i have done.This morning I looked out of my window and saw 2 women and heard them say "thats the Entrance" and then my door number.but they didnt come over.this whole situation is making me ill

    In the portal they said on the 27th July that they have told the landlord that they are processing the arrears but its STILL not in their account or my account which ever way it works

    Hi Jane, I'd recommend contacting your MP stressing this UC error has put you at risk of eviction, hopefully they'll be able to move the DWP along swiftly in paying what they owe your landlord.

    The good news is eviction is a process that takes time because your landlord would have to apply through the courts, only the court can evict you.

    Thank you.I am just really stressed aside from this ive also got this bowel investigation going on.And they've now found that my uterus lining measures 7mm and because ive had post menopausal bleeding means I 'could' possibly be at risk of having cancer.My mum actually had endometrial cancer.so all these things are going through my mind.The sonographer said I dont have polpys and wouldn't tell me anything else.now im scheduled to have this other investigation called a hysteroscopy.but i just want my home sorted.

    Stressed out to the absolute max.u.c have left a message to say they are not paying the money owing until the end of August so ive just transferred some of it on my credit card or ill be evicted

    I dont know if my landlord will even accept this because its nearly £2000 thats owed now and ive just put £500 on plus I need to pay this month's rent

    @Jane315STARX landlords can only begin legal proceedings for rent arrears once there are 8 rental weeks unpaid, for whatever reason.

    Any payments to reduce the amount owed will be accepted by your landlord. If you can load more on your credit card to reduce the arrears to below 8 rental weeks then the action stops (while you wait for UC payments). Get advice later about getting back the credit.

    It's vital with your conditions to be free of this stress as quickly as possible.

    Whatever your weekly rent is multiply that by 8. Pay off the difference and keep it below that amount to avoid legal action until UC pays up.

    When I took on my first home in 41 years, in 2024. I knew that I had to adjust my UC to match the costs of my rent, which has to be updated at the start of every new tax year. I was given two choices - go into my bank or paid directly to my landlord. I chose the latter option which is a blessing in disguise as it means I have the knowledge my rent is paid on time on the same date each month. The only top up I put on there is the Home Decoration Scheme. I get two weeks free rent at Christmas and two near to Easter. I deliberately have Direct Debits set up on my UC Date for certain bills - including a non attendance cremation service, likewise with PIP & ESA and also the single payment of ESA.

    What happened was a mistake was made by them 6 months ago and instead of paying the landlord a weekly amount they paid a monthly amount so there was a huge shortfall.Obviously I didn't notice because I carried on paying my portion by direct debit as I always do.when the rent went up in April I told U.C of the change and still everything seemed ok.but then suddenly in July I was told by my landlord that I owed all this money.Ive had to do all these changes in circumstances on the portal and put dates back in.U.C arevsaying its the social housings fault and the social housing are saying its both U.C and mine.but im now just too stressed out about the entire thing tgat I feel like pressing the button that says close account because I HATE u.c and the whole system and have Never had a day off of stress from this
