    Back when I lived in a HA Flat, I was with E-On for Gas and Lecky, they weren't too bad, much better than British Gas anyway.

    Only problem was that the Boiler broke, and it took them about 6 weeks to even come out to repair it, the Flat was like a ruddy Igloo, and then after they allegedly "fixed" it, the damn thing broke again.

    Which was the Camel that broke my straw back after a ton of other HA related issues and I gave 30 days notice last April.

    I was grateful to get the WHD last year, but shocked how quickly it went as despite being a 1 bed flat it takes a lot of heating, more than my last home which was a 3 bed semi. Here I have three outside walls (the proper term escaoes me) and 2 big bay windows.

    Millions of families will receive the Warm Home Discount for the rest of the decade, as the government today confirms the continuation of the scheme through to 2030/2031.

    This was published under the 2024 to 2026 Starmer Labour government

    This follows the government’s expansion of the Warm Home Discount last year, adding 2.7 million families to the scheme and bringing the total number of eligible households to around 6 million. This is on top of the average £150 of costs being taken off households’ energy bills from April, through measures announced at the Budget. 

    Hundreds of thousands of Scottish billpayers will also benefit from reforms to the way the Warm Home Discount is administered, with around 345,000 families in Scotland set to receive the £150 rebate automatically next winter – an increase of around 250,000. 

    The onus has for years been on many Scottish households to get in touch with their supplier to apply for the rebate. These changes will simplify the process for the majority of those eligible for the discount in Scotland, bringing the scheme closer into line with that in England and Wales – where most recipients already get the rebate automatically.

    I dont like Reeves, but she did plan to target it at the most vulnerable which would have provided more meaningful assistance. Burnham changed it to "help for everyone" for popularity reasons, and we have ended up with something that is diluted as a result.

    With this said, energy subsidies are not the answer to high energy bills, the government needs to sort out the infrastructure and our dependence on having to use the market for energy supply.

    Over the recent years I have said so much money using smart TOU tariffs, Agile especially.

    There's my answer: an early exit fee on fixed-rate tariffs when we renew.

    Most people are missing the point, you might get £ XX.XX off your bill today but the money still has to come from somewhere.

    I can't imagine these big companies charging less any time soon, so where will the money come from?

    The 5% tax won't be paid to the government from energy bills for a few months. The energy companies won't be missing out as they don't keep that money anyway.

    Warm Home Discount is paid for through everyone's energy bills already.

    In this case from scrapping digital ID, but that only funds it for 1 year.
