Disability Discrimination by A2Dominion After Dangerous Beko Oven Explosion

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. I am seeking some urgent advice and guidance regarding housing discrimination.On 5th August, the Beko oven that was provided with my flat catastrophically exploded while in use, causing me to faint from shock. I am a highly vulnerable tenant with severe chronic lymphedema in both legs and clinical depression, receiving Higher Rate PIP for both Daily Living and Mobility. Due to the hidden glass shards embedded everywhere, I have been confined to my bedroom for 22 days, unable to use my living room or cook, which has severely impacted my mental health.I filed a formal complaint, but my housing association (A2Dominion) completely rejected liability (they said oven was gifted), claiming cleaning hazardous glass from an exploded appliance is my responsibility. Most shockingly, they stated in writing that they have "no record" of my vulnerability. However, they allocated this property to me precisely because it is an adapted/accessible disabled flat, and their own Fire Safety Manager formally logged my Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) months ago due to my disabilities.I am left stranded in a hazardous environment with £1,148 in emergency cleaning costs, and they are refusing to pay or provide a safe, non-Beko oven. I have just escalated the case to Stage 2. Has anyone dealt with A2Dominion or similar disability discrimination? Any guidance on my legal rights under the Equality Act or organizations that can help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you

    I would report the HA to social services as an exploding Oven is dangerous to life and limb, and they're doing 2 things about it, chuff all and nowt, which is definitely in breach of contract.

    Thank you so much for your supportive comment and for explaining the legal reality. It means a lot to know I am not overreacting. A2Dominion has left me stranded for 22 days now, and it is a massive relief to hear validation that they are in breach of contract. I have just formally escalated my complaint to Stage 2 and am awaiting their senior management's review. Thank you again for your valuable advice regarding Social Services."

    Hi,

    The glass door exploding on ovens isn't actually that rare. I have seen it happen with various different brands, certainly not limited to Beko.

    You will also find it near impossible to buy an oven that isn't partly Beko nowadays. They recently merged to become part of the Whirlpool group, and so anything branded Hotpoint or Indesit or Ariston etc are all technically Beko as well now.

    Although I live in a private rented flat, I chose and paid for my own oven to be fitted last year after several bad experiences with landlord chosen ovens.
