Letters being late

My grumble for the day.

Has anyone here been noticing letters in the mail have been or are being delivered late in recent months?

Just another example recently was a birthday card was sent to my girlfriend from London the week before her birthday, but she didn't recieve it here in Cornwall until 3 days after her birthday. She even assumed it was lost which was a bit of concern as there was a £20 Amazon voucher inside the card.

Is it acceptable for card or letter to take nearly 2 weeks to be delivered?

I have heard of other people recently complaining about recieving letters late. Its assumed that Royal Mail have been overwhelmed with delivering parcels and therefore letters have been less priority.

I'm assuming more and more people are ordering items online, and the system is chocked up with parcels.

Anyone else been suffering with receiving letters late?

    I've noticed this as well. Royal Mail are now privatised, which means that corners are being cut for profit. I live in supported living flat and I have to pay Durham County Council money every month for my care. I received an invoice a month late once. I have since arranged to get them sent by email.

    Corners are being cut all over. I've noticed as well that post is being dedelivered in unmarked vans.

    I can't say I've seen any unmarked vans yet.

    I just find that our postal system is broken which is unacceptable.

    On the flip side we ordered something from Amazon the other day, and the item came the next morning, and only ordered it the evening before. That wasn't delivered by Royal Mail by the way.

    I do honestly believe Royal Mail are being overwhelmed by more parcels these days.

    I've found similar! My parents live in quite a rural area and it can take a while for things to reach them these days. It's the same for my Grandma too who lives in a smaller town.

    It's not too bad here in London, but I suppose we've got a lot more infrastructure so that might be why it's quick. 2 weeks is a long time for a card!

    The last time I was sent the forms for my PIP review, they arrived 3 weeks after the date on the letter. The form said it had to be returned within 4 weeks of the letter's date which in reality gave me a week, and that's without considering how long it may take to get back to them.

    Fortunately they were very good about offering an extension

    I guess in cities like London the better infrastructure is in place, but also theres a lot more population in London over a relatively small area. So more letters to sort out.

    Cornwall has vasts amounts of just countryside.

    But to think the card was sent from London, I'd love to know its route down to Cornwall, because it definitely shouldn't have taken 2 weeks.

    This shouldn't be happening in 2026. I could understand it in 1926, but not now.
