Confused about becoming self employed

in Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)

Hi I am on new style esa and need some advice. I am severely dyslexic and severe depression, anxiety..... However for my mental health I have been making art and a gallery is interested in my work! What do I do if it sells. Very confused

    Hi,

    You would need to inform ESA and they will discuss Permitted Work with you.

    Normally the Permitted Work threshold is around £200 a week. But in a case like this where you won't be getting paid often, but it will be a large amount when it does happen, then they should average those earnings out over a longer time. Maybe 1 month, or 3 months, for example. There is no set time for this, it is tailored to each person so you have to discuss it with them.

    Oh thank you, but it will not be big money, just like from £5-£75. Do I need to become self employed too.

    No problem. You don't need to register as Self Employed unless you're earning more than £1000 a year.
