Another financial review

in Universal Credit (UC)

Hi folks I have just had a conversation with someone at UC telling me that he needs 4mths statements for all my accounts. I did this last year. He said they can ask as often as every 6mths. It was so upsetting & difficult to do last time I just ended up in tear on the phone.

Any advice? Anything?

    Unfortunately these reviews are part of claiming UC now, some people get them more than others. There isn't any publicly available information that I'm aware of, that reveals their selection criteria.

    I'm going through my second currently after having one in 2023.

    I'm really sorry to hear that your last review was so upsetting @Yellowyodie. It's true that they can do reviews quite frequently now. I know it can be really stressful and invasive, but I don't think there's much you can do to avoid it unfortunately.

    Which parts did you find most difficult about your last review? Is there anyone who could be with you for support for the next one? Sometimes it can help just to have someone else in the room while you're on the phone to them.

    @Rosie_Scope thank you. I just found it hard because of all the faffing about. Initially I didn't have enough actions to upload my statements when I'd finally found them, after a long telephone call with my bank walking me through it all. Then because it helpfully straddled a financial year it was even harder to get one of my statements printed out. After 3 tries & a few weeks I actually abandoned the telephone & got my mum to take me in to the branch in town to watch over them as they actually printed the right statement. Lots of to'ing & fro'ing. It was so exhausting & confusing. I can't believe I've got to do this again so soon. Just glad it was at 6mths otherwise I'd have just given them my access code & password & told them to help themselves.

    That does sound like an ordeal @Yellowyodie, no wonder you found it stressful! Do you think your mum would be up for helping you out this time?

    Hi @Yellowyodie I had one this week and was amazed at how calm I was. They have become much easier with practice - this is possibly my 5th UCR - but were very distressing to begin with.

    It really helped that this woman was easy to understand, had exchanged journal messages with me beforehand and best of all, gave me a postal address to send in my bank statements! I'm unable to upload documents and used to have to take them to the job centre for them to scan which was always a thoroughly miserable experience.
