My home is my prison

Hi guys
Being stuck in this house is like being in prison.
I lost my my car about a month ago, due to my husband not putting oil in the car ever.
I've been told that if I was on a higher rate of P.I.P I could get a vehicle. To take me to my hospital appointments ect. Those who know me, know I went through hell with P.I.P. So the thought of doing all that again makes me feel silk.
I have also asked the care centre if they could help me get a scooter. They said they couldn't because I'm not on the higher rate of P.I.P.
It seems I can't get any help, unless I have this higher rate of P.I.P? I can't go out on my own, and need my wheelchair. But with my husband having a lot of pain in his shoulder.  he finds it hard to push me. So now I'm stuck in the house all the time.
I don't get visitors and dont have family, except for my 3 children.
I just don't know what to do.
I have the papers but I don' want to do it for the money, I just want the help.

    Hi bev

How long is your current PIP award ?
You should be aware that if you have an award in payment you can only reapply if your condition worstens or you develope a new conditio that is likely to score you more points

It is important to understand the criteria for PIP awards. A good starting place is the B&W self test

    Hi @CockneyRebel
Yes my condition has got worse, since my court assesment in May this year. Ive just had an assesment done for me in my home by the care society. And now i have equipment to help me carry out simple tasks like going to the toilet ect. I've decided not to go ahead with the higher rate. Even though they told me I would get it.
But thank you for the info

    Hi @bevt2017

Sorry to hear you feel stuck in your own home without seeing friends, etc.

If you cannot get funding for upgraded mobility aids such as scooters or electric wheelchairs due not being on the appropriate level of PIP is there not over ways around this?

What about looking into paying for a support worker or care worker to push you in a manual wheelchair if your husband cannot manage it?

What about alternative means means of getting funds to pay for the scooter? Example, grants from charities, or possible government loans if any are available. Or even crowdfunding which seems to be the latest craze to fund raise?

Also other alternatives may be telephone befriending or telephone support group services - are any of these available for your kinds of disabilities in your area?

And just thought is there no dial-a/ride type transport services in your local area? Often aimed at senior citizens but sometimes available for those of a younger age.

    All the best

    Hi @Neil2017
My husband did say that the care society could help with some funds towards a scooter. But it depended on the manager? How much ect.
I would rather be locked in the house, rather than deal with care workers ect.
I can get very anxious and stressed when I'm out.
I'm prouvondly deaf so communicating is extremely difficult. (Even for my family)
    Thank you

Thank you for your reply and good to hear more about your circumstances. Hope you find a way around your isolation even if it is only a temporary solution.
    All the best for now.

Depending on where you live, second hand scooters can be obtained for a reasonable price if you are careful. Local markets, boot sales, E bay or gumtree are all worth trying

Hello @bevt2017 How are you ? I am reading about your story.  Please can I suggest if you can and do get offered help or support.  I think you should apply for it.  I notice that reading further that you could get higher rate of PIP.  That is your choice that is your life.  I just know I am on the old DLA yet if I lose the car on the scheme.  The motobility scheme I am going to be like yourself trapped in the house.  I would have to look at options available.  I would look at motobility website and if you get it the range of cars are great.  I drive a automatic Micra.  Also remember you can nominate family member to drive not you.  I am sure that might be a solution.  I am same also not used to people coming into my house.  Thought about this I need help then I going to have do this.  I live on my own.  Also one final point a lot of people do not get the help they need.  They are spending a life time battle to get it.  Get refused.  I am one.  Hope you do get the help you need and nice to talk to you.  As you can read the stories on this forum.

    Hi @thespiceman
I'm not doing to bad thanx for asking. I'm still stuck in the house with no transport. After a lot of thought, I am going to put in for the higher rate of P.I.P.
Looking at my old P.I.P claim, a lot has changed.
I have looked into other options, but they all cost to much.
I don't have family or friends to help me, so I'm very isolated.
It's important you get out, even if it's just for an hour. I'm like you I don't like people around me.
You can always talk and get help on here.
I will let you know how I get on.
    Thanx for listening

Hello @bevt2017 Thank you for support and kind words.  I read your story because I know so many people in our community who do not think they qualify for benefits or do not bother.  I was one for a while.  Now I use all my time to get what I need for my life to improve my well being.  In my early twenties should have applied for motobility then.  Had a job and business had money.  Decided not to do it.  Paid for next ten years or more probably nearly £10,000 on cars insurance.  All the while my disability getting worse and my income and things changed.  Made redundant, business collapsed me severely ill with addiction and the rest.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing.  I can see it was a mistake.  Seeing one disabled friend I had at the time applied for everything and got it.  I have struggled to get what I need.   I have a car on the scheme and do go out.  Being in my early fifties not too far but I go out.  Please can I suggest speak to some one from SCOPE who could help with forms.  I know I will next time I get one I do not understand.  I hope and pray you get sorted and find a way.  This is not about me it is about you.

    Hi @thespiceman
I'm happy for anyone to read my story if it helps them.
Scope have been amazing, they have been very suportive.
And the commnity have helped me so much, getting through my P.I.P nightmere.
Scope is doing my story soon about P.i.P ect. So you can read more about what I've been through.
I'm like you I didn't want to go on benefits. I've worked all my life, even when i had my 3 children.
But I couldn't get any other help or support unless I went through P.I.P.
You have gone through a lot, and I'm happy that you finally decided to get the help you needed.
I don't have any friends who are disabled, but read on here some people can be greedy, and go for everything and get it. I try not to judge them, but it does make me angry if I'm honest.
I've done the forms now, just waiting for doctors, specialist ect to send me letters.
Thank you so much for your advice and support.
    Bev
