Kitchen habits
I was saying in the have a grumble post about how I'd cooked pasta yesterday (woooo! big achievement for me tbh!) as I'd intended to make a pasta salad to have through the week
But when I went to the kitchen this morning it's still sat straining in the sink so now has to be binned 😅😫 Years ago I would have eaten it anyway, same with pizza left out overnight or most things really.
I have diagnosed 'contamination' OCD so I know I can be extreme with this sort of thing now, but I wondered if anyone else has changed their kitchen habits as they've aged? It was only in my mid-twenties I started even giving it a second thought!!
I'd have pizza for lunch one day and the next evening would still happily eat the leftover slices sat uncovered on the kitchen side

Well done for your pasta cooking @Biblioklept, even if you didn't get to eat it! Do you think you'll have another go at some point?
I've got a bit more relaxed as I've got older. I used to be quite strict about not eating anything that could possibly make me unwell, but now I'll happily follow the 'five second rule' for any dry foods that I've dropped. Within reason though - it depends how clean the floor is! I think I'd probably still avoid anything that's been sitting out overnight, not sure I'm quite there yet!

I wonder what would happen if we ate raw chicken like Gus did today? OK, our gut is pathetic compared to that of a dog, but on the plus side, we have thumbs, and can unlock the front door.🤣

Oooh don't, chicken is something I reaaaaally have a hard time with! On the rare time I cook it, it's basically burnt because I get so worried. Even with meat thermometer and everything! Lol
I think my gut is crazy weak now because I've been so cautious for so long

I didn't think at all about how some people might go the other way and get less worried about it, that's so interesting! I'm sure I'll try again at some point, pasta is one of the few foods I love, I just don't really prepare it in advance for another day, but I've been in such a funk I thought I'd try and be more productive. But it backfired haha
I hadn't thought about the 5 second rule in years, haha! I used to do that, sometimes more like 55 second rule…😅

I am the same as @Rosie_Scope and I am not as picky about food as I used to be. If the cheese was open after 2 days I would refuse to eat it. Nowadays I am only bothered if it has been a week.
I used to cook a lot, especially when my son was young but now I barely cook at all. I would like to get back into the habit of it but by the time it gets to teatime I lose motivation 😂 I am lucky that my husband is a good cook.

That's one of the excruciating things with ADHD where you get that surge of motivation but the task you're doing is time-gated and the motivation is gone before the task finishes!!

I bin anything that looks off or out of date

If it looks fine, smells fine, and tastes fine I'll eat it, no matter what the date is on it.

@Ross1975 im the same, with the cost of living and very limited funds I have to take the reduced things, I do also freeze meats that I buy reduced.
