That's such a brilliant shot @michael57! I've always wanted to see one of those

Haha I could hear it but my dawnie had to take the picture so I could see it on the big screen

My plants have come on in Leaps and bounds while I've been away. I'll have to take some photo's tomorrow.

Look forward to seeing the pictures @Johnboy412000!

All my plants have made great progress. Really pleased with them. Sunflowers not grown very tall but that's not a problem. Looking a bit wilted so have just been and watered them even though rain is forecast I cannot guarentee how much rain will fall. Not risking them wilting more and dieing.

Your plants look lovely @Johnboy412000. Is that a tiny gnome I can see in one of the planters?
1 -
It is indeed. There are 4 of them.
0 -
Have you named them and given them each their own character?
1 -
No not really. I have some bigger ones sat on my Kitchen Windowsill inside.

I would love to see some pictures @Johnboy412000!

Not as big as they look in this photo but they still look cute and I have them looking out of my Kitchen window sill cos they are way too cute to risk getting damaged in the wind outside.

With October coming up, I am going to take out the roses, dead perennials and bulbs. I am currently doing research to find what will work for me in each pot. I am going to put in a watering funnel to get water direct to the roots. The old gardener in me is ticking away, cogs are rusty and needs some oil.

They're adorable @Johnboy412000! A very sensible idea to keep them safe inside.
Sounds like a good plan @Rag_793. I would love some plants but I always kill them. I need to research properly.

@Rag_793 I've got some Mulch Mats ready to cover my rose when the cold weather sets in. Roses like to be kept warm in the winter while they Hibernate. I got that Rose as a trial and if it goes ok I'll get another one next year. Not shown much action as yet. I re potted it way back in I think May or June.

My two Roses didn’t fare well in the hot summer, going to remove them from the pots in the Autumn. I have a few ideas to future proof the barrels with certain types of plants. I have to dig around in my head to gather a few ideas up, alongside a pile of books as well. I worked as both a Private Gardener, alongside as an Estate Ranger & Gardener for my local council.

Sounds good. Keep us posted on how it goes.

How did your sunflowers go in the end @Johnboy412000? Have you had some good blooms?
Have you had any thoughts about what you might put in your barrels @Rag_793?
I've been waiting for some consistent rain to put down grass seed in my garden and it just isn't happening! We had a bit last night but it's not due to rain again for about a week. Might just have to bite the bullet and go out to hand water it every day!

I am leaning towards having two dwarf Japanese maples, Japanese black grass, japanese painted ferns and Irish moss
2 -
Oh that'll be lovely @Rag_793! Japanese Maples are some of my favourite trees. Beautiful colours. Do you know if they're easy to care for? I'm hoping to put a couple in my garden once it's a bit less of a bomb site!

I have had to dig into the back of my mind to wake up the old gardener information stored there 🤔
They are moderately low-maintenance, but they need regular, consistent watering and annual feeding rather than being completely hands-off.
I would go for dwarf varieties, which are slow-growing and can grow as high as 1.5 metres.
You must water them frequently during warm weather, as the leaf canopy can block rain from reaching the soil.
I will be planting them in two large half whiskey barrels, after clearing out the old plants.
How many bombs 💣 have been dropped on the garden 😬
