Where can I find grant help for Aids & Adaptations?

Hello, I am wanting some help around aids or adaptations. I have several joint problems, and a recent MRI of my back confirmed L1/L2 disc problems and arthritis. My question is: my mattress is very old, and as a single person who works full-time, my income is very limited for purchasing extras. I have applied and been declined for PIP just this week and will go to MR, but it's a long process; I understand. What I need is something a little sooner, as I wake up frequently in the night with backache due to not moving with a back spasm, stiffness, etc., and I think a new mattress could help. I am totally clueless if this is even a thing. TIA

Hi @MistyAvidreader8 and welcome to the community. I'm sorry you're struggling with pain. Do you get support at work to help with it? Thank you @Kimi87 for sharing those links.

How are you feeling about the PIP MR? Just in case, we have some information here https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/challenging-pip-or-other-benefits-decisions

hi, thank you for the link. I'm feeling deflated and anxious. I've read too many horror stories about the PIP process, and I just really don't want to deal with them, but I need help. The decision letter has put I work and drive - rolls eyes!

Work has been extremely good, and I have spoken to Occupational Health and the DSE guy, who has ordered equipment to my home address, such as a mini keyboard, a big monitor and a Bluetooth mouse. I have a rise-and-fall desk from a disability student grant from 2017, a footstool, and an ergonomic chair. They have also organised a representative from PostureIt at work, and a chair has been ordered with extra desk equipment. Nothing has been too much trouble; I have understanding colleagues and a line manager, and I am joining the company's disability Network as I have just returned to work from absence. Thanks for asking, but work has been no problem, which I am grateful for.

I'm so glad to hear that work are supportive @MistyAvidreader8. It sounds like they have been great at providing you with the equipment you need. Is the disability network a place where you can talk about your condition and get support from others?

There are lots of horror stories out there about PIP, but I always say that people are more likely to tell a negative story than a positive one. Use the links that we shared above and ask us as many questions as you need to and we'll help you get through it. You're not alone.
