Bedroom tax
Can someone help me please, my son has adhd, asd and sensory processing issues, I have a 3 bed house, I use the spare room as a sensory room for him and for someone to stay when I need a break as my health isn’t good it’s also used when my other 2 children come and stay 18 year old girl and 14 year old boy, I told u.c back in 2022 what I use the room for as I was having to pay the bedroom tax and was looking online and saw that I didn’t have to due to what the room was being used for, u.c didn’t respond back I chased them and got rejected, in may last year my health got worse so told them again that I also need more help now they accepted and now pay my full rent, I’ve done mandatory reconsideration and refused so now waiting on tribunal, I had hearing other day which got adjourned due to dwp not sending me a bundle the judge said I have a big battle on my hands, I don’t think it’s right that I was rejected in 2022 when the room is a sensory room for my son who has disability’s can anyone help or point me in the right direction of someone who can help me fight this decision surely this can’t be fair when rooms like this help your child’s disability’s

So as I understand it, you are appealing the decision in 2022 not to award another room? And that from May 2025 they have awarded another room due to you needing an increased level of overnight care?
Non resident children are considered adequately housed in their resident home so that wouldn't make you exempt from the Bedroom Tax.
A separate sensory room - which you say is also being used as a bedroom for others -isn't generally an acceptable reason for UC to pay your full rent either.
Is there a reason you can't have a sensory area within his own bedroom?
You can speak to a local advice agency for advice on your case.
