Quite a few by the looks of it, it's a right mess @Rag_793 😂 The previous occupants of our flat were banned from the garden for some reason, so it was all overgrown with brambles before we moved in and cut it back. It's been a total fox paradise - there's tons of buried animal bones and stolen items the foxes have brought in like shoes, toys, and bits of clothing pinched off washing lines. I've dug up all sorts. They've clearly had fun collecting things over the years!

The soil isn't very good quality yet and very compacted, so I think that'll be the challenge! I'll be adding in lots of nutritious stuff to try and get it into a better state once I've decided where to put things. Would be lovely to have a couple of small trees, so thanks for the advice! I'll definitely bear that in mind when it comes to it ☺️

I like the sound of black grass alongside colourful maples!

I have a lot of ideas for the barrels, the old scheme didn’t work. I worked for 12 years as a Private & Public Sector Gardener, alongside as a Countryside Estate Ranger for my local Council.

I enjoy reading your posts (even the sad ones) as your gardening knowledge interests me. I wish I had identified this as a career choice for myself as I'm happiest outdoors. Useless with Latin names though 😉

Just had a route around a box of books, collection of Horticulture Books that I have had since my apprenticeship in 2000, always refused to get rid when people have suggested to do so.

Going to completely refresh my wooden barrels, take out the roses and bulbs as they didn’t fare well in the hot weather.
I have leaned into the Japanese theme with the plants, Japanese Maples, Black Grass, Japanese Painted Fern, Midnight Rose Carol Bells, Snow Drops and Anemones. I have realised after ordering that the colour palette I have chosen, balances out really well and each plant compliments one another.

    The Anemones are gorgeous 😍

They're all beautiful @Rag_793! I can't wait to see them all planted. Do all of them do well in winter? I'm thinking of having some plants outside.

all are hardy which is good, although I did order two ferns, only to double check and find they have to be brought inside during the Autumn & Winter 🤦‍♂️ managed to resolve it thankfully.

Good job you double checked @Rag_793! Did you order different ones instead?

When I looked them up, it said they were spreaders and I wasn't sure if I should mention it (now I don't have to 😉)

Hi Rachel, I ordered two suitable replacements. Alongside contacting the plant nursery about taking the two I had ordered.

I will be keeping them in a large whisky barrel container, which should hopefully keep them under control. Or else the old council gardener in me will be having words with them.

Sadly my plants are starting to receed now. I watered them this morning but now the cooler weather is here they aren't the same. I have enjoyed them though and they'll be back in full bloom next Spring.

Always sad when stuff starts to die back @Johnboy412000 but that's the seasons for you! Sounds like you had some lovely blooms though. Are your flowers perennial? Will they come back next year or do you think you'll plant some new ones once Spring comes?

@Rosie_Scope Not sure I think though that they will come back again next year. Trouble is I just banged them in the planters without making a note of what was in which one. I've got to use my memory now and the looking back on Ebay purchases. Years ago I used to write a number on the pots and what was in it and make notes. Maybe I could still do that when it's not raining.

Plants are on their last legs. I've enjoyed them while they lasted and hopefully they'll be back in the Spring.

Those sunflowers are still looking jolly @Johnboy412000, even if they're starting to die down now! Excellent gardening anyway. Is there anything you'd do differently next year? Looks like it all did pretty well ☺️
