Delivery robots - are they the future?

So there's a new two-wheeled robot being trialled in Barnsley and I'm not convinced that it's a good design. It seems to fall over easily like a toddler! The company that produced it says it could climb stairs. I'm not sure how safe that is and I actually find it a bit creepy. What do you think? Are they the future?

You need to be afraid that the UK cannot design and manufacture such robots. The country is falling into the Middle Ages, unfortunately.

What makes you say that @egiste2r?

"Peasant 1: A witch! We have found a witch! Can we burn her?
Belvedere: How do you know that she is a witch?
Peasant 2: Because she looks like one!
Witch: I am not a witch! I am not a witch! They dressed me up like this, and this is not my nose it is a false one!
[Belvedere pulls off the false nose and opens his helmet]
Peasant 1: Well, we did do the nose, and the hat.
Peasant 2: She has a wart.
Belvedere: Why do you think that she is a witch?
Peasant 2: Well, she turned me into a newt.
[Belvedere gives him a disbelieving look]
    Belvedere: A newt?
    [Silence]
Peasant 2: Well I got better.
    Peasant 3: Burn her anyway.
    [Yells of "Burn her!"]
Belvedere: There are ways of telling whether she is a witch. Tell me, what do you do with witches?
    Peasants: Burn them!
Belvedere: Now, what do burn besides witches?
Peasant 3: More witches! [receives a punch from Peasant 1; silence]
    Peasant 2: Wood?
Belvedere: So, why do witches burn? [more silence]
Peasant 2: Because there made of wood?
Belvedere: So, how do you tell if she is made of wood?
Peasant 3: Build a bridge out of her!
Belvedere: Ah, but cant you also build bridges out of stone?
    Peasant 3: Oh, right.
Belvedere: Tell me, does wood sink?
    Peasant 1: No, it floats.
Belvedere: What also floats in water?
[lots of yelling and many wrong and random answers including very small rocks]
    King Arthur: A duck!
    Belvedere: Exactly!
Peasant 2: So if she weighs as much as a duck she is made of wood.
    Belvedere: And therefore?
    Peasants: A witch!
Belvedere: We shall use my largest scales.
[Having been revealed to weigh the same as a duck, therefore proving her a witch, the crowd goes insane]
    Witch: It's a fair cop."

I don't blame you! I just thought of that film when the middle ages were mentioned. 🤣(Monty Python and the Holy Grail).

Oh! I've only seen that film once so didn't get it. Thanks for explaining 😆

When ordinary people do not understand what other civilisations bring them, it means that their civilisation is at a lower level of development. Unfortunately.

It's not difficult to make a robot that moves over rough terrain, the problem with a delivery robot is that it has to travel its way safely for others.

    A delivery robot . . . . really?

Pavements and roads if they exist are not perfect.

Every house and or business is different.

Will the robot deliver OR will you have to collect? Think about it, it has leg but no hands.

Will the robot know where or if to leave a parcel?

. . . . . and then there is the Hacker side to think about. You local thief going about with a Blu Tooth device opening the robots like they do with cars.

I'd quite like to see one in person but I'll be honest and say I'm not a huge fan of the design.

I wonder how long it'll be until delivery robots are the norm!

I never considered the hacker element @CarNineSix. Very good point. I see why they've gone with the 2-legged design so it can climb stairs and steps but I just don't think it'd last long before someone decided to knock it over.

I've seen videos of 4-wheeled delivery robots that seem more robust but they can only cope with pavements.

Does anyone remember when they announced that drones were going to deliver us our packages? I'd be terrified!

Why does a delivery robot need Bluetooth? I think we should be afraid of his lidars.

Drones are already leaving "packages" in Russia and Ukraine. Be afraid of the fulfilment of the desires.

I'm not sure that many people are actually in favour of delivery drones @egiste2r so fingers crossed they won't be used!

I only used Blue Tooth as an example.

There is and are many ways to tamper with electronic devices.

How hackers break ATMs: A hacker drives up on a skateboard to the ATM He takes his laptop out of his bag and turns it on. He takes a sledgehammer out of his bag. He breaks the ATM with a sledgehammer and puts the money in a bag. Puts a sledgehammer in a bag. He turns off his laptop and puts it in his bag. He leaves.

Question: Why does he need a laptop?

Answer: And what kind of hacker is he without a laptop?

    😁

@egiste2r if he/she/they/them leave no digital foot print they are good hackers.
