Hi

We are a married couple 1 still working and one passed retirement age but still working. Currently receiving state pension and working 3 days a week due to ill health.

I can't continue in my role as it is manual labour and sickness is becoming the norm however I can't afford my bills with my wife's salary included. She will be retiring next year however we can't afford to live on pension alone.

Can I claim anything

Thanks

Hi @Nb1201 and a warm welcome to the community from me!

If you've passed state retirement age, you may be eligible or attendance allowance or if you haven't then you may be eligible for personal independence payment (PIP), do you claim one of those at the moment?😊

You can apply to your local authority for Council Tax Reduction, when your wife also is retired you can contact them again with your updated circumstances to have your application reassesed.

If no additional benefits etc are available, I'd suggest throughly assessing your budget, household bills & spending to see where changes could be made to save money.

Money Saving Expert is a great website with lots of ways to save money and an extensive forum.

If you have debt speak to one of the specialist debt advice agencies to find the best way forward for your changed circumstances.
