New and looking for community - work barriers

Hi all,

I found this forum after googling groups for disabled professionals. I'm part of a disabled network at work but I'd like to be able to speak freely about some of the barriers I face at work and with employment generally, and connect with other people who get it, even if it's just to empathise with how terrible it can be sometimes. It can feel a bit overwhelming, wondering how I'll keep working for another 30 odd years when workplaces can be so slow to make themselves inclusive and accessible. I'm hoping there might be some good news stories in here too.

In other news I love my cat and dog and spending time in nature. Those are the things I enjoy most in life.

Hi @saradotusername and welcome to the community! I've just replied to your other comment about discrimination at work. I'm so sorry that you face barriers at work. I feel that employers have taken steps to improve but there is still a long way to go. Do you mind me asking what you do?

Thanks for telling us a bit about yourself. You can get to know the team here Meet the Moderators. We'd love you to share your interests too 😊

We love animals here and we would love to see pictures of your cat and dog over in Pets Corner. I have 2 black cats and would love a dog but we just don't have room at the moment.

Do you do much gardening? We have our Gardening Corner with lots of beautiful pictures of our members gardens.

We hope that you find the support you need here but can also time some time to relax and chat 😊

Thank you! I work in a communications-based office role. I'm very fortunate to work remotely but I'm also very aware that my adjustment could be removed at any time. Legally, I know they're not supposed to be able to do this, but I know how my organisation works and the difficulty disabled individuals have challenging the removal or refusal of adjustments.

Thanks for sharing links to the other groups, I'll check them out and post some pics. I'm terrible at gardening unfortunately but I'll happily enjoy seeing others succeed, you never know I might learn a thing or two! Also black cats are great :)
