Help Carers allowance
So basically I just been awarded carers allowance, made a bit of a mistake I was just trying to claim carers element but claim both instead but anyway so go a message in my journal saying I have been overpaid by £900+ on my universal credit because I have been awarded back pay on carers allowance from 10/06/26 so I am a bit confused, so does universal credit take the money of my back pay from carers allowance in full or does it deduct it from my universal credit/carers element in bits each month because I read and it say it can only take a max of 15% of my universal credit/carers allowance but I not sure. Can someone help me understand.

I believe they will take instalments from your UC payments each month. Do you feel you'd be ok with less money each month?

Yes I will be fine with instalments, so I will get a lump sum for what they own me and UC will take a small sum out of my UC each month until I paid back want I own.

So done a bit more research and it say that the instalments are like £60+ a month, that is a little much I think but it says that I can ring up DWP debt recovery place and you can get it lowered around £10 a month but I would ask for it to be about £20 a month until next July has I also pay a advance payment and it ends than so than I can pay £35 a month from than. I have put a note in my journal but just about right, no one has answered me, just asked for some help and they ignore you. Just wanted to know has anyone else dealt with the DWP debt people, I did try to do it online but it would not let me so hopefully it goes ok.

This reminded me that I had to pay back an overpayment of UC around 10 years ago. I remember speaking to them and asking if I could pay £5 a month as that was all I could afford at the time and they agreed. £20 a month sounds reasonable and it's a great idea to only pay what you can afford to.
When did you put the message on your journal? Hopefully they'll get back to you soon.

Yes I looked and they said they are pretty good and only on occasions do they demand people pay the 15%, I think it probably people who have been given chances to pay and mess it up or people who have that many bills, it not reasonable to only pay a small amount. But it says normally they will lower it, to a reasonable amount. So hopefully gets sorted tomorrow. At the moment I not sure if they sort my carers allowance payment, I no I got it but when I rang up they said that they had not sorted out the payment yet so not great, has I normally get my UC and now my carers element on the 17th of every month but it looks like I will not get paid the carers allowance yet so will just have the little bit that leftover from my UC and the carers element and will have to wait for my first carers allowance payment.
I message them on Monday morning and than again yesterday but nothing, normally they answer with 24-48hrs but not this time.
