it's only "common sense" if you don't consider trans' people's gender identities to be valid, and are happy to see more medical neglect and avoidable fatalities because trans people cant get healthcare.

I consider MY protected characteristics as a woman to be sacrosanct. WE are entitled to feel safe when accessing healthcare or using changing rooms and toilets or swimming in a woman-only pond.

The NHS was clearly misguided when it introduced that policy in 2019.

I always respect gender identity and use the desired pronouns of the individual.

However gender identity and biological sex are two different things.

Biological women have rights and I'm glad to see common sense prevail in excluding biological men (however they identify) from female only spaces.

If one is required to use a WC that corresponds to one's biobiological sex, can there not be a third way; that is a unisex or trans only facility? I don't see why my elderly mum should have to share a toileting space with biological men, when she is in hospital for a broken hip.

I think more places having single toilets (one lockable door, one sink & one toilet) as opposed to open rooms with multiple toilets would be good. Maybe in future these set ups will be the norm for new buildings. It's harder retrofitting older buildings and for Hospitals especially that have limited funding other needs will probably take priority.

this is the only sensible reply grounded in any sense of reality from any commenter in this thread excluding myself. I actually agree with this. When the UK anti trans moral panic is finally behind us, people will finally understand how normalised gender neutral loos are worldwide.

these already exist in a lot of places.

Mandating trans people use them is segregation, and will automatically out them, putting them at risk of reprisals. so a lot of trans people simply will use the same toilets they've always used or not go out at all.

Aso your mum is not going to give a **** if a trans woman is using the toilet next to her, because 1) she has a broken hip and 2) most brits don't care about where trans people go to the loo.

you clearly don't respect gender identity.

for one, many people you consider "biological woman" are actually transgender men or nonbinary people.

Single cubicle toilets and changing rooms are in all the hospitals I use but we're talking about accessing safe healthcare here. Private rooms are also available for patients. The real question is why don't trans people feel safe in men's spaces - including hospital wards - and how do we change that?

We are all either a biological man or a biological woman. I'm not sure I'd spot a transitioned/non-binary woman from the average woman in the street. They're not feeling excluded or persecuted and we're not complaining about them, are we?

Women grow up never feeling entirely safe so what's new pussycat?

An ederly woman in a hospital, they most definitely don't expect to share a WC with biological men. I refuse to accept that is a desirous state of affairs.

Woah this entire comment is a trainwreck.

Considering how trans women frequently get "V-coded" (aka SA'd and r***d by men) when forced into mens spaces, their fear is very rational. You can't convince anyone to be ok with getting SA' and r***d, regardless of gender identity.

Anyway, the fact you cannot understand this alone cements my belief you've been radicalised into the gender critical camp, and nothing I say will change your mind. You clearly have no idea.

I'm sorry, I really have no idea what those codes mean.

If trans people feel unsafe in men's spaces then how do we fix that was my question?

It isn't 'gender critical' it is normal. Why should women just accept your world view and suck It up? No chance.

Male privilege complaining about male violence? Makes my head spin!

I totally agree Stellar, I think WhatThe is so busy making her point that she's completely missing the bigger picture.

Being born male doesn't automatically make someone a threat to women, just as being born female doesn't automatically make someone harmless. Forcing trans women into men's facilities doesn't magically make everyone safer and pretending that the potential risks to trans women don't exist doesn't make those risks disappear. What's particularly telling is the apparent assumption that women's concerns automatically trump everyone else's, as though trans women's safety, dignity and privacy somehow matter less. You can raise legitimate questions about privacy without treating an entire group of people as a problem that needs to be kept away from everyone else. Calling something common sense doesn't make the argument any less flawed.

You cannot ignore the guidance anymore than you can ignore the law.

Hospitals have to be safe for everyone and women fought so hard to achieve any degree of safety.

Transwomen and men need their own facilities. I would not like to see anyone unsafe.

There was sadly a piece about a missing person in my local newspaper this week, identifies as a woman. In the photo, it was a person with long blond hair one side, wearing a skirt & jumper, they may identify as a women, but clearly, did not look like one. The comments that would go up if they walked into a busy ladies would not make them feel very comfortable, as uncomfortable as those women in there. So, like disabled that have to look around for a disabled loo, maybe go to a toilet where gender doesn't matter, as there are general toilets around.

With comments like "Aso your mum is not going to give a **** if a trans woman is using the toilet next to her, because 1) she has a broken hip and 2) most brits don't care about where trans people go to the loo."

    1) Being so sharp, mind you don't cut yourself!

    2) Pushing it with most!

As to Samantha who is missing, I hope they're found soon, nothing today.

@ChrisR777 I think the increasing number of detransitioners tells a different story; that it's often a psycho-sexual problem rather than a physiological one.

I'm seeing a lot of pushback on fb from women and the gay community. We can't be afraid to speak loudly and rationally about this!

Very ture. Unfortunately, the ongoing anti-trans moral panic, pushed by the Establishment, means that the few genuine issues people may are getting lost in a sea of transphobia, fascism and bigotry. No naunce, just harm. Literally a repeat of section 28 in the 1980s towards the gay community.

Facebook is known for being a cesspool of trolls and bots. If you seriously believe all the comments you're seeing is from real people, than you've been manipulated.

Likewise how the same detransitioners, who have also been radicalised into the gender critical camp, keep getting platformed by the same transphobic media. They are not representative of detransitioners as a whole.
