Hi all!

I’m terrible at introductions but I’ll give it a go. I’m Gem and I’m in my 40s.

I have Cerebral Palsy but have been suffering with a new condition for the past 2 years and have possibly been misdiagnosed until recently.

It has affected my life a lot (my life has pretty much been on hold) so I thought chatting to other people online might cheer me up.

    Hi Gem,

What a lovely profile pic you've got! And very nice to meet you here, hopefully you'll find something to discuss your difficulties or distract you from them. There are lots of things apart from being ill that we like to share: games, crafts, reading…

    I hope you're doing okay today :)

Thank you all so much for your kind welcomes and the information.

I spend a lot of time online so I'm not sure why I've never noticed this forum before. I noticed it when I was looking for information.

I have some strange hobbies but I love Disney, anime and experimenting with websites and social media alternatives to name a few. 🙂

@GemZee Hello 🙂 Welcome to the community and hope you find it a very warm and kind place to be part of. I’ve been here a year and found it really helpful. I think anime is so smart, the detail and effort that goes into it. Anime is fun 🙂

    Hi @GemZee 👋

Anime looks so amazing and is so uniquely expressive

I’m also a big fan of Disney, especially the classics but you’ve intrigued me with your talk of strange hobbies!! Please share!!

@yellowpineapple84 Thanks. I think that's at least partly why I love anime. 🙂

@justj74 It is. I'm a big fan of the classics too. I have mentioned my main strange hobbies above, which get strange looks (I think people think someone of my age shouldn't like Disney or anime) or they are uninterested, when I mention the website or social media stuff. I also love Korean dramas/KDramas.

    Hi @GemZee

It's lovely to have you on the community. I'm Sara and one of the Cerebral Palsy specialists in the CP Network. I have right-sided hemiplegia and epilepsy.

    Hi @GemZee
    Great to meet you!

I'm Richard, and I work with Sara and the Online Community team. I live with quad cerebral palsy and use a wheelchair now.

I used to watch some anime back in the day and have kept in touch with it, so to speak, via my daughter.

@SaraC_Scope that sounds great. I'll check that out.

@Richard_Scope For some reason, I thought anime wouldn't be popular here, but it's nice to know it's not such an odd thing to like.

I didn't think of mentioning it earlier, but I have Spastic Quadraplegic Cerebral Palsy as well as other conditions (a lot of which are due to the CP) and I'm a wheelchair user.

Welcome @GemZee! Tell me more about which anime you watch 😊 I love Studio Ghibli and I have a DVD called Memories which has 3 different anime from Katsuhiro Otomo. I especially love Cannon Fodder as I find things about war (especially nuclear) fascinating. Here's a trailer

Also, if you'd like to know more about the team, have a look at Meet the Moderators. I didn't really have enough room to put on all the films I love 😆

@Rachel_Scope I love Studio Ghibli! I watch a lot of different anime and like a variety of genres. I'm working my way through Black Clover at the moment. Fairy Tail, Himouto! Umaru-Chan and My Love Story! are some of my favourites so far.

    I'll have a look. 🙂

I'll have a look at those @GemZee. I need a new series to get into. Maybe we need to start an animation discussion?

@Rachel_Scope I never like recommending as I know my taste isn't the same as everyone else's. That sounds like fun/a good idea.
