Wife causing grief over fibre upgrade
Comments

I tried "smart plugs" a few years ago but no good - they are still plugged in !!
She doesn't trust things that are plugged in not to burst in to flames - including my wheelchair - it's not allowed to remain plugged in charging overnight so the lead acid battery cannot get a full charge and rapidly deteriorated due to "part charging" - and needs replacing AGAIN !

Decisions, decisions… 🤔

@Wibbles if I reading this correctly "plugged in" is the issue.
Just a random type thought, hard wire things in?
Have a fuse cupboard like no other, but no plugs visible.
I know it is smoke and mirrors but would that help?

Blimey, You’re not dealing with someone being unreasonable.
You’re dealing with someone whose threat system is stuck on “high alert”.Yet you also have needs, mobility, independence, internet access, basic functioning.
You can’t sacrifice your wheelchair battery forever.
You can’t avoid fibre upgrades indefinitely.Has your GP offered her any therapy? This feels like the ultimate catch 22.

We're only hearing one side of the story, but now Mrs Wibbles needs therapy?

To be fair while I agree we're only hearing one side, that level of fear over things staying plugged in probably does need some support, it sounds like it might be impacting her day to day life quite significantly

Why must a router be left on overnight? I switch mine off all the time, usually by accident. I also fully charge my powerchair as I sit to watch a film or read at night. I wouldn't want to leave it plugged in overnight either.

We have a newish television, it does everything online no antenna needed. No other boxes attached.
Plus we have cameras that need the internet.

If you keep on turning a router on and off - it slows down each reboot - because it loses sync with the signal - and eventually slows down to a crawl…
I know - I've done just that and needed BT Openreach to make a housecall to reset it !

I don't have any Internet telly or suchlike, I had no idea they need to be kept on. This tablet and my radio is all I really need; I don't watch much tv, mostly just news and football highlights, with the odd thing that catches my eye @WhatThe
