Early for appointment

I had a neurology appointment this morning at 9.40, checked my letter before I left to ensure I had the time right and arrived at the hospital at 9.15 as traffic was excellent.

Try signing in on the machine and it wouldn't work so figured it's because I'm so early... Went to the main reception desk who told me they couldn't find my appointment for today.

Show her my letter and she points out it's at 9.40 on 20th … of November! 🤦‍♀️

I wish this was the first time I've done something like this, but I'd be lying if I said it was.

Oh no @Anhedonia2! We've all done something similar. The best thing to do is laugh, although I might have cried, but I cry at a lot of things 😂 Did you go straight back home or did you go somewhere else seeing as you were already out?

I once went to the neurology clinic a whole year early! I had been to see them 2 weeks prior, and so when I got the letter, I assumed they wanted to ask me something else, not even registering next year's date. 🙄

Oh wow @ChrisR777! To be honest I'm not sure I'd register the year either.

At least i gave the nursing staff a good laugh. This was a while ago, when I still got an annual review.

I grabbed a snack from the shop to make the trip seem worthwhile 😅

This made me laugh as it's the sort of thing I'd do! Haha

Why do you not get your annual reviews any more? Mind you at my last appointment they said they wanted to see me again in 3 months and it's been just over a year so I imagine capacity might have something to do with it!

I was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in 2003, and was given an annual appointment at the neurology clinic. I knew from day 1 that it was incurable and progressive, I just assumed they wanted to note my progress for future research or whatever, what with it being very rare. They used to ask to examine my calves etc, ask if I minded medical students having a look too. Most clinicians won't see a single case of MD in their career.

One year, out of the blue, the neurologist asked me in a slightly irritated tone, what I hoped to achieve, don't I know there is no cure? How about the clinic signs me off, i can get in touch if something major happens. (I don't think I'd bother tbh, they couldn't do anything anyway. It saves me a load of hassle getting there once a year).

It sounds like you were only being prompt @Anhedonia2. They would soon complain if you were a month late!! 😂
