Oh, so it's women (who know themselves very well) who are being manipulated by government and social media, not the people we are discussing here? Of course.

I personally don't think forcing trans women to share spaces with men is fair. As a woman I don't want to and I completely understand why they don't want to. I think they are far more at risk from men than we are from them.

That said I don't particularly like the way transwomen try to define women. To think that putting on a wig and make up makes you a real woman is ridiculous. Being a woman is more about the hardship of growing up with barriers and about hormonal cycles making life difficult and about the compensating joy of feeling life stir inside you. Transwomen are never going to experience any of that. But demonising them for wanting to distance themselves from being the type of men who have made our lives as women difficult seems perverse.

I don't want to be told by them what it is to be a woman but I am quite happy to share a communal bathroom or ward with them.

I think they should be allowed to use women's toilets and spaces unless their behaviour is bad or unless someone objects for a good reason. And good reasons don't include simple prejudice.

I personally think gender ought to be a non issue. Society ought to be removing gender stereotypes not encouraging them. But we absolutely don't need toilet police unless bad behaviour is harming others. Simply putting on a wig and makeup is hurting no one unless the other person is twisting themselves up into a frenzy of hate over it. I am mildly irritated. That's not a good enough reason for me to dictate how someone else lives their life. And neither is someone feeling their religion says what that person is doing is wrong.

I have probably managed to offend both sides of this issue but really this needs perspective and balance not inflexible law making and prejudice.

The way I read the judgement was that the new interpretation only needs to be applied when the equality law is under consideration. Someone just needing a wee doesn't require it's application.

Apply it for single sex spaces for domestic abuse survivors by all means or similar circumstances. But since when are public toilets safe spaces??

Requiring toilet police is not common sense.

Many transwomen look a lot more feminine than I do.

Are we going to have to wear skirts so a camera can check us before we use a public toilet??

Common sense would be to allow it until there is a genuine problem because transwomen are not the sort of men who cause women problems anyway and they want to avoid those as much as we do.

Any man causing a problem by deliberately pretending to be trans in order to access toilets and harass women ought to be prosecuted and banned but causing harm to every trans woman because of an individual's actions is excessive.

People who knew Bryson well, including his mother and ex wife, they are confident he only transitioned to escape being sent to a male prison. Imagine putting a rapist in a women's prison! 🤔
