Hi everyone I've been looking into buying an adjustable bed with soft mattress, I have fibromyalgia and most of the pain is centred in my back and neck, I also have a prolapsed disc and arthritis in my spine, I've tried memory foam mattress toppers and bed raisers to no avail does any one know where I could possibly buy one fairly cheap Plz?

Hi @nicola18, and welcome to the community!

Best of luck with your bed search! There are some websites online such as Willowbrook which offers beds that may be suitable for your needs, and it might also be worth searching for grants to see if you can get any help with the costs of these- I know this type of equipment can often be costly.

I wonder if @Jean_Scope could also offer any advice?

    Hi @nicola18

    Welcome to the community.

Adjustable beds do tend to be fairly expensive, even second-hand and pre-used beds can be problematic for a range of reasons. Sometimes people are able to get charitable funding towards the cost of a bed

but, if possible, it is always best to be independently assessed by an appropriately trained person, such as an Occupational Therapist (OT).

Sometimes OT's are able to arrange for people in clinical need to be loaned a specialist bed from a statutory agency. Failing that that the OT may be able to write a letter to support the person's application to a charitable funder.

Buying an adjustable bed new can be a big financial investment. I think that some bed companies will allow you to trial their product for a while before you commit to buying it. You might also want to explore the possibility of hiring a bed. Trialling or hiring might allow you to test out if you are going to get the benefits from a new bed that you are hoping for.

    Hope this helps

Hi @mariabarlow :) I'm sorry that you're experiencing quite a bit of pain at the moment. Could you try getting a more suitable mattress second hand, such as from a charity shop, or somewhere online? I know they can be expensive.

Have you spoken to your GP, or another medical professional, about your pain levels and how they're affecting you?

Would you like to tell us a little more about the bad choices you feel you're making because of the way the medication affects you?
