Hi suesherry
I did try 5-Htp...did not feel any difference.
I did a lot of research and started taking L-tryptophan(an essential amino acid which helps with increasing the neurotransmitter Serotonin).
This has made a big difference...I'm no longer in tears everyday and it has calmed my mood. I take one 500mg capsule a day. Been on it 6months now with no side effects at all.
I take this one...

Holy Basil is also another excellent supplement.
I could not believe that I started sleeping 7hours after a few days.
I started on 2capsules x 3times a day but I did have high Cortisol levels.
I tapered off the dose after a few weeks and now take one in the afternoon and one in the evening. I have been on it 9months with no side effects.
I take this one...

The 2 can be taken together with no side effects.
They also do not make you feel weird like amitriptyline or other ADs.
Let me know if you want any further info.
