Not sure if this is in the right section or not.  After being assessed for PIP my mum was awarded 0 points for her mobility, I am in the process of gathering further evidence for a MR. I was wondering is there anyway she can keep her blue badge? She struggles with breathing when walking so losing the blue badge will isolate her further.

    Hi @louise91,

Your mum may still be eligible if she is unable to walk far without experiencing difficulty, but it would be a more complicated process. You might be interested in contacting your local citizens advice to get some support with this.

    I hope this helps!

Local Authorities have discretion to award Blue Badges to those who don't automatically qualify.  Contact your Local Authority.

    Hello @louise91
I don’t want to pry.....but is your mum getting any other component of PiP?

She was awarded the standard rate of daily living yes, you're not prying! :)

Ok.......so may I respectfully suggest you get either the social worker, mental health social worker, CPN, OT or GP to go down the mental impairment route ( look up the PiP descriptors  for psychological distress etc under the descriptors for planning and making a journey)

On my Council form you had to have DLA or other awards but no mention of PIP.....I got CPN to add in a bit about having PIP instead and got the card .......only for a year but it will help me in my present situation.

Also there is usually an OT in the blue badge dept of the council.......don’t go in personally do it all via the phone.

My daughter phoned for me explaining difficulties I had and was in direct contact with the OT who used her discretion for this award.

    Good Luck.

Thank you, you've been very helpful! :)
