    Hello MaisieLucy and welcome

ESA is payable until you receive your state pension as long as you meet the criteria
However, do you get contribution based or income related ESA ?
If you receive part or all income related then this will be affected by savings and pension income

    Hi @MaisieLucy

As CR alludes to above, it depends on the amount of the Pension/Lump Sum and whether your benefit is income-based or contributions-based. If you're not sure, check a letter or call the DWP.

If you can let us know if it is income-based and what figures we're looking at then we can give a clearer picture. But unfortunately it is the case that a lot of people in this scenario do lose their benefit.

As regards voluntary work, there is provision within ESA for 'permitted work', so you may be able to do this, however, when looking at your ability to do 'work related activity' at you next assessment, it may well be a relevant factor that you are able to undertake voluntary work. Again this will depend on the specific circumstances of your case.

Let us know a bit more.

    Kind regards,

    Mary

What happenes if you are claiming ESA income based and contribution based and claim your state or private pension??

When you claim state pension ESA will stop, you may still be entitled to an IR top up like pension credit
Private pensions are deducted £ for£ from IR benefits

Where does it say if your IR or contribution?
Mine just says based on my contribution records and any additional amount the law says you need, does that mean NI credits?
Do not follow me, I don't know where I am going.

Often the DWP letters are confusing
A good indication is the amount you are paid
or you can ring DWP and ask
