Hi @suesherry, I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling. Are you receiving any support for your pain/low mood at the moment? Hopefully our chronic pain advisor will be able to offer some advice- I've moved this post into Claire's category.

Hi @suesherry, This is such a tricky time for you - I know Pippa asked, but what support have you got? GP? Pain specialist?

Changes in hormones definitely have an impact on our pain - particularly for us ladies- and the symptoms of menopause on top must be so hard.  Are you being given support to manage through this?  I have found that there are some good resources on the Henpicked site for natural help, diet, medical approach and other women's stories : https://henpicked.net/menopause/

Ongoing chronic pain is so debilitating and so many of us have very low times.  This affects our sleep, concentration and general well being.  I don't want to overload you with info in one reply but will direct you back to this post where another member gives some great advice for arthritic type pain which may help your knee & back pain:
    https://community.scope.org.uk/discussion/41252/increasing-arthritis-pain

I will come back with some more info and to check in - hope you have a restful day.

The locum doc I try to see is lovely trys his best (my doc different matter ) . Had all nhs  physio  aloud (had a great physio he went through all the injury and opps had over the year to try sort lots of stuff out from scratch. Do all the sheets of exercises he gave me every day. Have been in tears some days doing them but can't move if don't .Tried chriopractor  acupuncture  can't afford them any more no saving left . Looked in to and tried a lot of stuff from health food shop , some help a little but can get expensive. Now with all the symptoms of menopause looking in to anything that will help, doc's answer is to put me on hrt .I have put on weight over this last year of acute and chronic pain due to my meds.even tho I eat very healthy so now getting near being diabetic .I walk my dog three times a day ,started off not more than 5 mins could stand , built this up over the year can walk for an hour now (no good for anything for a few hours after, meds are needed ) but it dose help your mood if you try and be positive. Very had some days.Headphones in concert rating on long deep breathing tears rolling down face at times now with head and neck feeling like I'm going to explode from heat hair drenched wet ,joints even more painful than my normal . Feels like kick me when I'm down .

I personally won't choose the HRT route as I feel its simply delaying the inevitable, I'm perimenopausal atm get the odd hot flushes but I do notice that on period weeks my pain levels are heightened  so I'm rather a grumpy cow

I've had blood tests and was told hormone levels normal though I know I'm perimenopausal because I know my body, I'm still adjusting to pain medication nevermind hormones.Sometimes being grumpy gives you peace lol.

@Victoriad My gynecologist says I'm too young for HRT, at 42. Perimenopause doesn't seem to have a problem with my age....

I do think lady hormones are often ignored or dismissed with the age of oneself , I'm sure if men had it be a different thing altogether. Has there actually been some clinical research into menopause and chronic pain suffers!?

I have suffered from chronic back pain for years, especially lower back. I’ve tried everything. I actually find this product really helpful. It’s not expensive but does the trick. I tend to heat mine in the Microwave but my partner prefers it cold so pops it in the freezer.
