In July 2014 I finally gave in too fact I had a hip problem. It was affecting mobility and work.
I went to Dr's then went for xray. I needed a hip replacement. I saw consultant a few weeks later and 7 days after that was under the knife. Aye it was just a tad shot.
I woke to be told I had probs waking up oh and they had given me waaaaaay too much morphine. Oh well at least it was over
Next day i was shocked at how bruised my foot was. BUT also below the knee nothing no feeling at all. Head physio confirmed this after aggressive pin test.
They told me that dislocating the hip was most difficult they had done,ah thinks me that explains bruised foot.
A typical hip job is 3 days I stayed 7 as my temp kept peaking. I would doze off and wake in a wind tunnel surrounded by fans, the blade type not the adoring type.
Went home no feeling in foot.
2 weeks went by leg still like a mighty oak but some feeling returned. BUT that feeling omg a breath of wind felt like a blade cutting in.
Fast forward a year. 24/7 pain,no energy and drs just kept upping meds. I was a zombie but still in pain.
I demanded something other than pills/morphine. So Refered to chronic pain clinic.
3 drs stood around table gently examining me. After 1hr they pronounced CRPS.
Next 2 years a blur of treatments. In that year I hardly left the house and suffered big mental health probs, wife stopped be attempting self amputation.
I was assigned to a specialist physio. First step forward in years of turmoil.
Now I'm still in pain but almost med free they did not work except clouded my brain and kept me in the house.
I do Qigong a form of tia chi.
The relaxation and slow movement are major tools for me to work on pain.
My mobility is varied half foot is still dead and other half means I walk literally flat footed.
I have v little stamina no matter how I try
Pain is affected in intensity by air pressure changes, cold is a massive no no.
As I said I work pt and love it but am often exhausted.
I have poor memory often forgetting the next word when speaking.
I grieved my old very active life and then started a blank sheet.
Well it's I ho I ho it's off to work I go. Have a great day all

I forgot to say my other hip is seriously arthritic and one shoulder. I know I should go to Dr and start the process but after the 1st hip and result I'm a tad wary.

Hello @Nigelrl and it is great to hear from you. You really have been through the mill, haven't you? And you're an impressive gentleman, Nigel. Coping with such major life changes, still working, AND writing with such a great sense of humour! Don't want to embarrass you, but I find that quite awesome.
I think I'd recommend that you have a look in our 'Dealing with chronic pain' thread and perhaps join in some of the conversations there. It would be a good way to find friends in similar circumstances, and we're all friends here.
There's a list here, too, of our other categories/threads, so you can have a look through and see if there is anything that interests you.
Please, please stay in touch, do let me know if you find anything useful in all this and don't hesitate to ask any questions that occur to you. Would love to be of any help to you that I can.
Thank you again for your very interesting and informative post,
    Warmest best wishes,
    @JennysDad
