I was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in nov 2016 I have had my prostate removed and still under observation to have my bloods checked evey six months, the reason I am writing is I was on ESA and now going back some two months ago it was stopped now I don't get any benefits which have all been stopped and told that I must survive live off my savings, I have tried to get advise on this ie cab etc but seem to be hitting a brick wall, I have cancer live on my own and hopefully someone can help direct me to someone who knows about getting professional help. thanks.

    Hello @geds.
    A very warm welcome.
    This community has got a lot of support and advice that can assist you with all that you have and are going through.
    I'm newish here myself and navigation isn't my strong point, however, im sure some one else will be in touch very soon who can direct you further.
    It saddens me to know, with all that you have been through, you now have to fight a cruel system.
    Please take care and I wshw you all the best.
    Kindness always ???

    Hello @geds and a warm welcome to the community. Very glad to have you, but very sorry to hear of the trauma you have been through.
    If you are up to it could you try out the online benefits calculator here? Inputting your information should give you some clue as to what you should be entitled to. And in the meanwhile I'm going to forward your post to some of our specialist advisors and hope they'll be able to help you.
    Very warmest best wishes to you,
    @JennysDad

    Hi geds

    I'm glad you got in touch with us here at Scope.

    It's not possible to know how to advise you without all the detailed information about how your ESA stopped and when, which kind of ESA was it, contributory or income related, and about your personal circumstances - whether or not you have a partner, children,  bought or rented accommodation, savings, etc etc, and probably the online forum isn't the best place for this.

    I would suggest that you try to find a local advice service that includes benefits advice to ask these important questions, though you say that you have already tried the CAB. Did they not help?

    An online benefits check won't really cover this situation because it isn't clear when and why your ESA was withdrawn and this would matter in terms of what your options are now.

    Alternatively, phone our helpline, if the generalist information officer who picks the phone up isn't able to advise, they will suggest that a benefits specialist calls you back to help you to figure out what the options are now - if that is possible without the paperwork.
