Hi @Nova and welcome to the community! PIP is not a means tested disability benefit so will not affect your ESA (unless ESA is stopping for another reason). I hope you find the community a supportive place and please feel free too have a look around and get involved with discussions :)

What award do you have for PIP daily living or mobility? PIP isn't means tested so won't affect your ESA in a bad way.

You're ESA will continue for as long as you're entitled to it, at least while you're under pension age. Once you reach pension age then it stops.

Do you live alone or with a partner?
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

@Chloe_Scope, I believe that PIP awards are not means tested though some parts of ESA awards are. However, PIP payments in themselves are not sufficient to cause a reduction in ESA. I;m not an expert but I think that's how it works.

Thank you @Topkitten, I did mean that it is not means tested- thanks for this! A person can claim PIP and it does not interfere with ESA, UC, JSA or many other benefits :)

    Np @Chloe_Scope, glad to help.

ESA is usually only affected by additional income or savings however, after my mum left me some money when she died, even though I went above the maximum savings amount I still get part of my ESA claim. About 25% of the full amount which is not means tested. I cannot remember what the name of that part was or is called, sorry.

Contribution based ESA is not means tested but having a private pension may reduce it. It is also taxable which used to annoy the hell out of me - about 20% used to be taxed with the tax being taken off my other income. Now I have to pay it on my State Pension instead!!

Income Based ESA is means tested but not taxable.
