How long before car goes back

in PIP, DLA and AA
Hi everybody finding out info for a friend please, he was on Dla for life until pip reduced his mobility so doesn't qualifi for motability any more,if Mr is not successful when will he have to hand over car?  And also been told that ppl have held on to their cars till had their appeal, is this right please?

    It is unusual for an appeal to happen before the car goes back  Returning the car. Offers from Motability, if you return the car within 2 months motability will pay you £2000, plus an element of any deposit paid when taking out the contract. If you hold onto the car for 6 months motability will pay £500. Be aware, if you win the appeal and go back to motability they will want an element of the award for rental of the car from the moment mobility element was removed until you returned the vehicle.     Probably within the week, it will contain a pack of information. May I suggest you telephone motability, ask for the Specialist Team that deal with PIP problems. They are very understanding, and very helpful. Once you return the car, you will usually receive the cheque within the week. The balance of any deposit you paid when taking out the contract may take a week or two longer. As I said in my previous posting, be aware that should you win (Hopefully) the appeal, and want another motability car, they will expect you to pay the rental on the vehicle from the time your mobility element was stopped, to the time you handed the car back. Hope that helps.

    With my Motability cars I returned them on the same day that the decision notice arrived. It was a few weeks later that they sent me a letter and other info asking me to arrange for the car to go back.- ummm 
    Then a few weeks later I received the good condition cheque and part of the advance payment.

    Were you on DLA before the PIP assessment? And how long had you been on DLA, there is a cutoff date. However, that is strange because even Motability on their website quote what I posted above.

    On DLA since 1995, claim closed Feb 2004 due to failure to return review forms, and made new claim March 2011 and had my first Motability car in November 2011 (61 plate Astra). Moved to PIP in 2013 and later that year the car went back. Since then I had two further refusals resulting in two further cars going back, the latest earlier this year.
    I know what the Motability website says but I quoted what I did. There was no way did I want to sit and look at the car knowing that any day it was to be repossessed - sooner it went the better.

    Have you received a letter from Motability following your PIP decision?

    Motability has some useful information about what happens to the car following an unsuccessful PIP assessment on their website.

    You can also contact them by submitting a general enquiry form or calling them on 0300 456 4566.

    I was on motability for 20 years, I then had a pip assessment last September and didn't get enough points so I had to return the car.As I had been on it for so long I was given £2000 towards my own car. If you appeal and win within 6 months of handing car back you will need to pay the money back (if you decide to go on the scheme), if its after 6 months you start afresh. I have been waiting a for a tribunal date and when I go it will be a year since the new pip assessment...

    That is correct, a reducing element of the £2000 has to be repaid to Motability if you return to scheme within 6 months. However, if your PIP appeal is successful, and back dated  Motability will require you to pay back the 2 months of the Motability element of DLA. When mobility is withdrawn, motability stop receiving the monthly rental payments. Yet you are permitted to keep the car for 2 or even 6 months. So  if you rejoin the scheme 4 months after you lost the mobility element if PIP but had held onto the car for 2 months, one could effectively be repaying Motability the majority of the back pay from PIP  As I have commented before, they get you every which way.

    I had to return my motability car when I didn’t get the higher rate of PIP. Motability gave me a return date which was approx five weeks after I received the letter. 
    I was given the £2000 transitional bonus. I’d only had the car for a month. 

    That was 18 months ago and I am now returning to motability. 

    I ordered my new car,then I received a letter from motability telling me I owed them £179. This is from the time my benefit stopped to when I handed the car back. I had no idea I owed the money to them and unless you pay it,motability will refuse to take you back. 
    I think motability are prepared to waver this money if you never return to them. 

    I never knew about this and thought I would put it here to let anyone else know.

    As I said above, they get you any which way. Morally the Government should pay Motability, as they are the people who stopped paying the claimant, therefore the claimant could not pay for the car. Oh I forgot, this particular Government has no morals where disabled and disadvantaged members of society are concerned.

    Hello everybody well he got the letter today has to send car back November, he would like to know will he now loose his severe disability premium on his esa . Went from high Dla on both to pip standard both any help appreciated.
