Homeschooling my add 5 year old

I am having a problem with my sons asd unit not realising what he is capable of. I took him out of school for a month but the L.A. seems to think he would be better off at school. So I sent him back part time.
At home he uses his pecs at a higher level and follows instructions.he understands everything and is very happy. I can't see the point in him being at school all that time if he is being treat as though he is at a lower level.
If I decide to homeschool what help can I get financially for a tutor and activities and speech and language  if this school does not meet his needs on the basis that he is much more intelligent than they believe. Also he struggles to be at school all day because he gets very tired this is because he has hypermobility which the school does not take seriously.
Could I get a AAC electronic devise funded when he is being homeschooled.
We have tried to get him into another school which is just around the corner instead of him having to get a taxi to school because we hate putting him in a taxi.
Also my son has problems with his tummy so we may need to pick him up from school we don't drive and this costs us £25 there and back.
We just want the best for our son and this is the only school that will take him but what's the point if they don't believe he is capable of much at all.

Hi @debsh sorry to hear that your son is struggling so much! Does your son have an EHC plan? I am unsure if funding would be available but that is probably the LA's decision, unless it was another external source. I hope you manage to get things sorted soon!

@motherscuffer do you have any information on homeschooling that could help?

We have been debating about homeschooling our guy with special needs. I do not want him to miss out on any chances to work on appropriate social and living skills and be challenged appropriately. Part of the time I will concentrate on his therapy and social skills too. We will be targeting his conversation skills during lessons and at mealtimes. During lessons I will cover a lot of topics and subjects using a prepaid for homeschooling curriculum program ordered online. It will give me the chance to adapt the curriculum to his special needs and preferences too. Forgive me for rambling on, this is a topic of conversation close to my heart. Do you mind if I bookmark this for the future?

@April2018mom there's a lot to think about when it comes to schooling, and even more so when special educational needs are taking into account, huh? Have you explored the option of specialist schools? They will do most, if not all of what you've described as they are much less academic-focused than mainstream schools. My son is home educated, but my autistic daughter goes to a special school. She has access to therapies and experiences that I just wouldn't be able to give her at home. If you do decide to go down the home ed route, there are loads of online resources, often for free or little cost. Be wary of paying for expensive packages as you may find they don't suit you or your child's way of learning and it's precious money wasted!
