Do you all think I would be better off if I ask for for more time to appeal as I have had a major crisis over the weekend with a member of my family and I have a good enough reason to ask.

    Yes, I would call them tomorrow morning and explain the situation. I did and was given an extra 2 weeks

    If you have a crisis you can ask for an extension, it may be worth a phone call?

    I am advised by a WRO on this site (Mike [removed by moderator]) that the only official time limit to appeal is within 13 months of the date of the MR letter.
