    Hi @Memmy
Welcome to the community! Try out this PIP self test to find out if you would be eligible. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with! :)

You can apply for anything as long as you meet one or more of the descriptors to gain enough points.
You will have to demonstrate using evidence describing how the COPD impacts on your mobility. If you want Enhanced Mobility you will have to gain 12 or more points - Not able to walk more than 20 metres.

    Hi,

PIP isn't about a diagnosis, it's how those conditions affect you daily. It's also a benefit for those aged between 16-64. Evidence will be needed to support a claim as they rarely contact anyone for this. Take a look at the PIP self test in the link above but bare in mind that it's just a guide and it doesn't mean you'll score those points.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

    Hi @Memmy

    A very warm welcome.

Sorry to learn about your COPD having recently been told about this.

I know it can be distressing to hear such news, as my dear wife had the same news earlier this year.

Can I ask, who gave you this diagnosis and what assessments have been undertaken to date?

This will enable us, to provide more guidance and assistance, about applying for PIP.

    Thank you everyone who replied.
I had my 3rd test ( breathing etc) on Friday.
specialist nurse at hospital informed me that I have COPD
    and not asthma!
apart from getting out of breath and coughing ( can’t walk more that about 30 meters!) I feel ok
i am underweight so need to put some weight on ( very difficult for me as I burn calories very fast)
i would like to know if I can get a benefit ( have paid NI and tax all my life!) am working to help with mobility.
DWP are sending out a form to me.
Thanks for any input or help

    Hi,
There's more to PIP than just the mobility part. It also makes no difference whether you've paid tax and NI all your life. If it's PIP you've applied for then i'd advise you to get some help filling in those forms and make sure you send your evidence with the forms. Expect a face 2 face assessment as most people have them. Good luck.

Another of my issues is Pulmonary Fibrosis .which  means in part the difficulty in getting oxygen into the blood stream and the inability to breath properly thus being permanently out of breath. In fact it is a progressive killer due to oxygen starvation.

OK I had my assessments and in all three this issue was discounted by the assessor as being nothing more than having a cough.
She flatly refused to accept that it even caused breathlessness.

And people wonder why I gave up with PIP when a nurse could not work out that one of the common side effects is permanent breathlessness.

I wish you all the luck in the world in trying to get the assessors to accept any medical evidence relating to lung diseases
