Dystonia
i have just found out I have cervical Dystonia. I have had this condition for a year but no one really knew what it was and eventually sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed it. He informed I had to take Parkinson’s meds for 4 months. I have started them so far so good in terms of side affects not really seeing any improvement to the neck. After 4 months I can have the Botox anyway I’m struggling at work I have a very demanding job as a social worker driving is particularly difficult and I have to drive a lot to visit ppl in their own home. This is also a problem as it depends on seating arrangements etc. I have informed my employer and they are going to look at a desk/chair assessment. I am 60 yrs old I don’t have a great pension and I rent my home so no property. Can anyone tell me whether I would be entitled to PIP or moterbility then perhaps I can reduce my hours at work and get an automatic car.

Hello @fynness and a warm welcome to the community. Sorry to hear about your circumstances but very glad you have found us.
You could perhaps do worse that have a look at our "What benefits am I entitled to?" resource which contains (in the first paragraph, I think) a link to an online benefits calculator.
Perhaps you could have a look and let us know how you get on?
I am not a suitably qualified benefits advisor, but we do have some excellent people on here and they will be in touch with you in due course. Should you find yourself waiting too long please get back to us.
Warmest best wishes to you

Thank you very much for the information

Hi @fynness
Good Evening & Welcome ??
It’s great ? to meet you today.
Yes I had to take the same journey as you are a few years ago now.
I had to take total
control over my:
1. work place.
2. pension.
3. benefits.
4. mortgage.
Had I not done this then I would have been in a right pickle.
Please please let me know if there’s anything that I can help you ????
As one of the “Community Champion’s” I will do my upmost in helping/supporting you!!!!!!! -
Thank you I will

Hi,PIP isn't awarded based on a diagnosis, it's how those conditions affect your ability to carry out daily activities based on the PIP descriptors.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help. -
Thank you I don’t think I would qualify do you know whether moterbility is available in the uk or has that been scrapped?

Motability is part of PIP and you need the Enhanced mobility PIP to be able to lease a vehicle from motability scheme.

Thank you what about psychological issues and pain although I can do most things I’m in pain most of the time and I feel socially isolated as I don’t really want ppl to stare at me due to my neck. It is also affecting my hair when I walk. Are those the only questions they ask when deciding who gets PIP?

PIP is about how your conditions affect your ability to carry out the activities based on the PIP descriptors. There's 10 for daily living descriptors and 2 mobility ones.It really depends on how your conditions affect you and no one on an internet forum can advise you if you'll be eligible or successful with a claim.Do you need help with managing your daily life? You don't have to receive the help, just need the help. Do have aids/adaptions at home? This link may help you have some understanding of what it's all about. Evidence of how your conditions affect you will be needed to support a claim and a face to face assessment will most likely be needed, as most people have them.
