Hello I'm looking for help and advice regarding a young adult with learning difficulties. He is 23 yrs old. His mom, who was my best friend for 20 years, passed away in 2015 and he has continued to live with his older sister and little brother. He has never lived alone. It is now time for him to try and live somewhat independently but as he is vulnerable he needs supported living. If there is anyone out there that can offer help or advice it would be greatly appreciated as it will be me arranging and helping him to make the transition.
Thank you
Thank you

Hi @Julie123, and a warm welcome to the community!
Thanks for sharing this with us. Hopefully our community members will be able to offer some suggestions, but as a starting point, Mencap have some great information and resources on their website which may be worth a look at.How do I access supported housing?
Supported housing is a specialist housing provision for people with a range of needs, including people with a learning disability. Anyone with a learning disability wanting to live in supported housing will normally have been assessed by their local social care department as needing this form of housing arrangement. Local authorities will often have some preferred providers of supported housing, but individuals can also contact providers directly to see whether they can help. -
Thank you Pippa. I will probably be making contact properly in the New Year to find out exactly what I need to do, what's available and where.
Take care -
Does he have a social worker? If so then you should speak to them and they should either help him or point you in the right direction.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.
