Activities for autistic toddlers

Hello everyone,

I have a 3years and 3 months son who is undergoing the process of getting a diagnosis if he has Asd or what exactly. Long story short the waiting lists are extremely long so at the moment all we can do is sit back and wait as going private is not an option.

I was wondering if there is other parents here or people who know what kind of activities do you get involved your children and how did you do the whole process?

I tried to communicate a few clubs I found online but did not get any response yet or the prices were out of my budget. I thought that getting him out being active and around people who will understand him and help him as he needs it would be very helpful for his whole progress.

I am sorry for the long text but I tried to cover any questions you may have in advance. Thank you everyone for all the help and support and for having me here. All the advice will be extremely appreciated and helpful.

Hopefully our members will be able to offer some suggestions, and perhaps our advisor @Jack_W could offer some suggestions too. In the meantime, I wonder if you've tried contacting the National Autistic Society to see if they have any recommendations?

Contact the NAS for advice. They might have some recommendations. What does your son enjoy? What are his cognitive abilities like?

Have you ever thought about forest schools and outdoor activities? The ethos is wonderful and there are lots of pre school forest school meet ups around that are either free or cheap. It could be worth looking into?

How does your child communicate his needs?
If you could give me a bit of information about him, I could possibly be of help. I used to teach children with ASD, but it's important to know what he can do now, what he enjoys and how he commúnicates with you before I make any suggestions.

I wondered if this may be of interest to you. Scope have recently launched a new service called Navigate. Navigate provides a six week programme of online and telephone support to parents who have a child going through diagnosis or have a child who has recently been diagnosed with a disability (within 12 months). The aim is to provide parents of a child with a disability with emotional and practical support and help them navigate these early stages. It also gives parents a chance to talk through things in a safe space.
