Hello, the other day PIP text me to say that they received my assessment. I phoned up to query this as I haven't been for a face to face assessment and they explained that I've had paper based one. I've got schizophrenia and am on a community based mental health act order. I sent them about 80 pages of related evidence. I'm worried that I've not been offered the opportunity to explain myself in a face to face interview and that this might go against me. PIP said that they would reach a decision within the next 6 weeks (as a guide). Is a paper based assessment a good or a bad thing? Does any one have any experience?

    Hi,

    It doesn't mean anything other than no face to face assessment was needed. You can ring DWP, if you live in the UK and request a copy of the assessment report to be sent to you. This will give you some idea what the decision is likely to be as they mostly go with the report.

    Decision times can be anything from 2-8 weeks, sometimes longer. It all depends on backlog in your area.

    My daughter who has learning disabilities just had a paper based assessment.  I sent in a lot of supporting evidence and they said she would not need f2f.  She was awarded enhanced on both. Good Luck.

    I received a copy of my Atos assessment through the post. The nurse has scored me as getting 17 points for care and 10 for mobility. Do the decision makers tend to go along with the health report? It was difficult reading what Atos wrote about me, but look so like it went in my favour in term and of my claim. Thanks for your help.

    Yes, they mostly go with the report, it's rare to go against it. You'll still need to wait for the decision though.
