Hi i had a paper based review and I sent medical evidence into dwp which clearly stated I won't get better only worse I have been awarded enhanced on both until 2024 so the 10yr light review is another pack of lies as i still have to be reviewed again for pip. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news and as i have read on hear the dwp and government is a joke so don't believe what the say.

    Hi @bugsbunny

Thank you for sharing this with us. I am happy to hear you were awarded, sorry to hear it's not as long as you'd hoped for. Please keep us updated or if you have any questions, do let us know.

Hello and welcome, you can rest now knowing you have a long award, many of us with a life long disability or illness with no hope of an improvement in the for seable future have lesser awards or even reduced and have to go through the MR or Tribunal process to get the award amended or corrected. In theses cases paper based acessments holiday be the normal process maybe in time it will happen.

If I was you I would be over the moon in not having a review within the next 10 years.
As Wilko has pointed out very few are awarded that 'privilege'.
I was being assessed every other year ( 3 face to face assessments since 2013) and had enhanced care & mobility!!

Not everyone will receive a 10 year award. A lot of people receive an award for just 1 year before a review. My daughter was one of them and she received Enhanced for both parts. 6 years is a decent length of time so it's great news in my opinion.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

I would have been extremely happy with six years too.
I know the length is recommended by the assessor and granted by the case manager, I still haven't worked out how the claimant can evidence a request that it be for that sort of period.

I got a 10 year award and I came to the conclusion that it was because the award was for higher rate, and my condition is degenerative. A review would be of little value since you can't be awarded more than maximum.

That said I imagine there must be a lot of people in a similar position who haven't been given a 10 year award - I wonder if on this occasion it might be something to do with the condition that you are diagnosed with??

Hi my condison is also degenerative and I am also on higher rate so who knows what dwp does but they seem to target all disabled people to save money which is wrong people have enough to contend with without them adding to it.

@bugsbunny I  sorry you feel a little disappointed, but I can understand if your disability will not improve, I was lucky with mine as I've recieved an ongoing award after 10 years. Light touch.

But one has to remember your evidence plus your form form must be all consistent with everything, again I was very lucky I never had to have a face to face as they full well know I will never recover and was well documented, I have health professionals visit 3 time a week for my safty yes it means nothing have the extra money because I can't go out to enjoy it. Because of my physical disability's and mental health I personally have know life now, I was in media industry years and I miss my old life and I've tried taken my life on many occasions but failed at the now two.

Ues i I do feel luck as I know this is a horrible system for many but count your blessing it not just for a couple of years.

Yes you will be surprised how many are actualy getting ongoing awards now it's better than it was, yes many will have to face the wrath of a face to face.

Just try for now take peace from this horrible process as I e always said their are many people worse off than ourselfs.

I highlighted everything that's wrong with this country from benefits, NHS, UC etc, but now we have to put up with the hate now that is the Tories.

There's some stuff on the DWP site about review periods.

    http://https//www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-1-the-assessment-process#award-review-dates

Might be worth reading but here are some examples:-

    Specification of a review period

1.10.5 The following are illustrative examples of review periods which may be appropriate:

    • Where the HP considers that the claimant has a level of functional impairment that will likely improve to the point where there is little or no functional limitation present, for example after treatment, surgery or medication, a short review period should be advised. The HP should indicate the duration of such treatment and the date at which there are likely to be little or no functional limitations present. This will help the CMdecide the duration of a short fixed term award.

    • 9 month review – ‘She has a significant disability due to osteoarthritis in the left hip but has no other conditions which cause functional limitations. She is scheduled for hip replacement surgery in 5 months’ time, after which it is likely she will recover to the point where there will be no significant functional limitation after 9 months.’

    • 12 month review – ‘The claimant is due to undergo surgery within the next 9 months, after which an 8 week recovery period is anticipated. It is likely that the claimant will not experience their current functional limitations post-recovery period and after 12 months there should be no significant functional limitation.’

    • 18 month review – ‘She is experiencing some reduction in their functional impairment due to severe depression and anxiety. She is undergoing treatment in the form of antidepressants and therapy with support from a mental health nurse. There may be some improvement in the future so a review at 18 months would be appropriate.’

    • 3 year review – ‘He is experiencing limitations to his functional ability due to sciatica, which he has had for a few years now. He had previous surgery which has not been completely successful. He now attends a pain clinic and remains under review by specialists and may be considered for further treatment options in the future. A review at 3 years would be appropriate.’

    • 8 year review – ‘His learning disability has been present since birth and will be lifelong, but he is aged 16 and with time and maturity his functional ability might change. He attends a supported education centre at present and has hopes of living in independent accommodation when he is older. There’s unlikely to be any change in the shorter term so a review in 8 years would seem appropriate.’

    Thanks for posting the above.
Grief if that sort of issue was all that was needed to get a 3 year award someone somewhere has been making a huge error in my case for the past 6 years!
Sciatica has plagued me since the early 80's at the same time as my lower spine was damaged after having a serious fall off a horse at speed.
Yes I have done the rounds, pain clinic, spinal unit in hospital etc.I even went into hospital for surgeons to try to repair the spinal damage. They couldn't even operate for fear of bleeding into the spinal canal resulting in loss of use of my lower body because of another issue I have. Sent home and told that there is nothing they can do for me.
My back issue was part of the PIP claims and never thought to include Sciatica with it - it seemed so minor. I have had two awards of 3 years each eventually after first being given 0 points, reviewed after 2 and the third assessment in 2017 again failed to give me any points for anything so I gave up.
